Effective the begin of the winter schedule Iberia introduces a new route from Barcelona to Basel-Mulhouse. The daily Canadair RJ, operated by Air Nostrum, will night stop in BSL, leaving BCN at 20.35 as IB8174, arriving BSL at 22.10 then leaving BSL at 07.15 as IB8175 and arriving BCN at 8.50.

BSL is Iberia's third destination in Switzerland. They also keep their code-share numbers on the daily Swiss flight from BSL to BCN.

Hey RJ100

how are you doing? I'm glad about Swiss decision. Sounds good for me that Iberia will expand in the swiss market. Maybe we see more frequencies to Basle and hopefully also to Zürich...

cheers

Hello Mike

I'm doing well, what about yourself?

I'm also glad about the SWISS decision. However I don't think that the new Iberia flight has something to do with Swiss' oneworld decision. Currently there is just one daily BSL-BCN flight which leaves BSL around 12 o'clock, but business travellers prefer flights leaving in the morning, so they can come back in the evening.

But you are right, I'm sure traffic between Switzerland and Spain, England and Ireland will rise and I'm hoping for more flights to all Swiss airports.

Regards,
RJ100

Good to hear, that IB is expanding in BSL.

Perhaps we see more destinations out of BSL/GVA/ZRH offered by IB in the future. In my opinion, there are some destinations with high potential, like Malaga for example.

Cheers
Gerardo

Iberia is in deep negociations right now to launch GVA-AGP (recently dropped by swiss and surprisingly the only European destination not yet replaced by another carrier).

Good news for Basel. They really need new carriers badly since Swiss have gotten rid of the eurocross hub.

A little bit off topic but I think in the future demand on Switzerland-Heathrow vv. will rise because more people travel via LHR. What happens then? I mean, considering that there is a slot problem in LHR, it is unlikely to see more flights, right?

Some other good news for BSL have been confirmed today:
effective October 27th

Cimber Air 3x daily to Copenhagen with CRJ-200
dep 6.30/11.20/17.25
arr 10.50/16.50/21.35

Cirrus Air twice daily to Leipzig with Beech King Air
dep 10.20/16.05
arr 9.50/15.35

Aigle-Azur
twice weekly to Constantine/Algeria

ES Air Cargo now confirmed to operate first flight on Oct.27th
up to 8x weekly to West Africa (also confirmed is that they will operate a DC-8-72F)

Rumours:- EasyJet Switzerland to begin service to LTN,NCE and BCN next spring.

-Ryanair to open new base in spring. After big differences in the beginning between the airport authority and Ryanair they came closer to an agreement. One difference is that Ryanair wants to rename Euroairport Basel-Mulhouse into Euroairport Zurich. Boooooh!  Sad
It seems that Ryanair has never heard of the "special" relationship between Basel and Zurich.

LOL  Smile
