In the September issue of AIRLINER WORLD, there is a huge article on DFW. It says that the Boeing 737 is "commonest aircraft" at the airport. Is this true? I would have thought there wer WAY more MD-80s at DFW.  Confused

Is "commonest" a word?  Smile

Did it say DFW specifically? If so, then that's tough to believe.

If it said "Dallas" or "the Dallas/FtWorth area".... then it may be plausible, as it'd then include WN's operations at DAL

This doesn't surpise me. You forgte.. AA has the 738, Delta has the 738 as well as some 732 I belive. Continental flies some 737's between IAH-DFW does it not? AWA has the 737 although they only fly the 757 into DFW right?

So even without WN at DAL, there are still alot of 737's being flown int o DFW I believe. DFW was also featuired in the newest edition of Airways Magazine.

AA may have the 737, but for the longest time, DFW was MD-80 city.

I thought that DFW was the home for most of AA's MD-80s. Someone posted a few days ago that AA doesn't even have a 738 flight crew based there. I was at DFW last spring and I did not see many 738s but tons of MD-80s. Point: I don't agree with that statement if it pertains to DFW only...

There is more MD-80 series a/c than 737 if you are just including DFW and not DAL. In fact, currently (until the changes with the 757s occur), we only have a couple AA 738 movements an hour.

It SAYS Dallas, but since the article is ABOUT DFW, I assume they mean DFW only. But eve if you count DAL, I would think MD-80 still wins.

Correction Dallas is MD80 city. Ask JCS17 or Jay Davis, they will tell you the same. We do get a lot of 737s but way more MD80s.

Just counting American Airlines flights (most of the traffic at DFW), there are 308 departures daily with either MD-80 (305) or MD-83 (3) aircraft, and all of 21 flights with 737's (all 737-800's)...I think it's fairly safe to say which is the more popular aircraft at DFW...

Why has AA not had many 738, they had many more 72S at DFW right? They had a 72S crew base there? What has taken so long to get a 738 crew base there? Are'nt the 738 pilots, old 72S pilots?

Just read over the article it specifically says DFW, DFW is a MD80 lovers paradise with all of the AA ones and DL ones funny because Airways had an article on DFW this month as well. I would say that they make up at least 55% of all Jet departures at DFW, their a quite a few 737's from AA and DL as well as the "other airlines" and 757's from AA and DL. M80's are easiest the most numerous although, Airliners World makes lots of mistakes regaridng US airlines/airports from my readings.

One good thing though is that we are getting a lot of 757s and 777 at DFW too.

These are all the 737's I've seen in DFW: AA 738, (DL 738, 732), UA 737-various types, AWA (732, 733), CO 737-various types.

737s are not all that common at DFW although the airport is seeing more and more of them. I'd say that there are as many 757s and/or 777s at the airport at any time as there are 737s. Delta is phasing out its 757s and 767s from DFW and quite a few are going to 738s. However, the number of AA MD80s blows away any other type of aircraft at the airport, trust me.

I also must disagree with the statement. I also take issue with its grammar. I'm no gramarian (and yes, that's what they're called), but "commonest" is just plain wrong! The correct terminology is "most common".

Like I said, I'm guilty of my fair share of grammatical errors, but give me a break!

You also have SolAir with a 737, Frontier too. I read that same article in Airliner World and thought, that can't be right. With all of AA's MD-80's I just don't see how DFW could be considered a 737 hot bed.......

I wish we had more 747's instead.............

Wishful thinking on my part.

I'm with you Jay - we need the KE 744 back and to get another carrier with a 747 in here. Maybe JAL? Not likely but we can hope. Even so, I'd take more 772s for sure, my favorite of them all.

Frontier has gone mostly 319s into Dallas though, right?

I would seriously say, living in Dallas, that there is no way that 737s are more numerous at DFW than are MD-80s. Not a chance.

I would say an airport like ORD is predominately 737's. (AA, UA, DL, CO, US, etc.)
