Just read a note saying that BA will be back in islamabad starting from 1st December. Three flights per week but not sure which London airport it will operate from.

Nice to see them back on the route.

From YAHOO FINANCE NEWS

British Airways will resume direct flights to Pakistan more than two years after suspending the service in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the airline said Wednesday.

BA planned three round trips per week from London to the Pakistani capital, Islamabad. The service, which had stopped Sept. 12, 2001, will resume Dec. 1.

Geoff Want, British Airways' director of safety and security, said the airline had determined it was safe to resume flights after a review of security measures at the Islamabad airport.

"Since our flights were suspended our team of security experts has worked closely with the Pakistan authorities and the British government to keep the situation under close review," he said. "A number of additional, robust and sustainable security measures have been introduced."

Will they also introduce flights to Karachi soon? There would be more demand for Karachi than Islamabad Iwould have thought...

This is nice news to hear! Why do so few European airlines serve Pakistan? I believe at the moment the ONLY European airline to serve any city in Pakistan is Swiss via DXB to KHI.

BA would do very very well out of KHI 4 times a week nonstop B 772s from LHR.

ISB is imp because there is more high yield F&J class traffic from there due to the worlds diplomats being located here plus local politicians and other Pak big shots. EK makes an annual 200%+ profit on their ISB route due to them getting all this traffic and even more so since BA pulled out after 9/11.

But seriously all in all if BA even flew 3 times a week each to LHE + ISB and KHI with B 777s it will make good solid $$$! Northern Pakistan is in desperate need for a European airline to serve it nonstop. Especially for BA the demand is there due to its good transatlantic connections + large Pak community in UK and surrounding Euro areas.

I heard that LX was contemplating starting once a week ZRH-DXB-LHE flights from Nov on A 332s as an experiment to test the market???
