I live here in Orlando and was really disappointed when they area at the approach end of runways 18L and R on the opposite side of 528 was closed. I know of the area on the newly extended Goldenrod but does anyone have any good spots other than the parking garage and something less suspicious to cops than Goldenrod?? I would really appreciate the info.

Glad to see another MCO spotter on here. Delta Air Cargo parking lot is OK.....just stay in your car and watch if your not taking photos. I usually wait til it's about to pass, jump out, CLICK CLICK CLICK, and jump back in the car. I've been chased out 2 times now.
Over by the car rental company by UPS (next to 18L), I used to park my car in the grass next to the fence and spot from there. Last time I was there I was chased out by a nobody who works at the rental car company, I've heard a few people spotted there without probs, but I haven't tried since. This airport is becoming a real pain in the @ss from a spotters prespective. They'll just have to keep chasing me out I guess.....

Is that stupid spotter pass only good for the garage or whole airport? If we can get like 10 people together, could they give a ramp tour or something? C'mon Justin, I know you've got CONNECTIONS!! I know......wishful thinking. I'm thinking about throwing a beach party under the approach for TPA. It's a secluded beach area and the aircraft are 250-200 ft. above-not directly above, but at a nice angle. Maybe some Orlando folks will come down.

You throw a party I'll be there. And the spotter pass from what I've read only get you the garage. Orlando is getting really nasty. I got chased off Goldenrod not too long ago.

It runs between runway 17 and future runway 17L. It was just finished. Its really nice, taxiways over the road nice long new runway. The road turn right just after the end of runway 35. Your right at the approach lights.

Goldenrod Rd. is more east of the airport (past runway 17). It's over near where the new runway is going to be (and why we need a new runway, I have no idea!!).
Oz, I've lost my 'good' connections
I have next weekend off....maybe I can make a day trip out that way (TPA).

Actually, this would probably be around early November because it won't be as fun unless the 36L is in use. In other words, northerly winds. And based on the last few years, most of November, there is a northerly wind component. If they're taking off on 18R, they make a right turn, so they'll be very high and right over us, whereas landing on 36L, they'll be lower and at an angle. I'll make a post a few weeks ahead of time. But as far as regular spotting, SURE, come on down! I'll be heading up your way myself soon.
(and why we need a new runway, I have no idea!!).
Whew...I thought I was the only one scratching my head.

I wouldn't try the UPS parking lot anymore. The airport police patrol that area now pretty regularly. A better place is off of cargo road by the old gate gourmet building. You can sorta hide in the dip of the hill there. Just make sure you park your car in a secluded place, anway from the spotting area.

Drew, I think I know where you mean, isn't there a double fence that would block photography?
Ozell - I guess they can't handle a WN 737 landing every 10 minutes on that runway, time to open a new one! That money could have went to renovating gates 1-59 (which they are working on I guess). Since July (first time i've flown out of that airside in a year) that whole area is looking like crap. Most of the ceiling panels are off, showing exposed vents, pipes etc. My attic is more inviting.

About a month ago I got chased off on Cargo Road at the approach to 17. This is where Cargo Road is divided east of 436. The planes were taking off to the north that day and I waited there for a half hour for a Virgin 744 to take off. The Virgin 744 finally took off and I was heading back in my truck about to leave when this female rentacop pulls in behind me in a white car and tells me to leave.
Hell if you have a good camera with a good telephoto you could get pictures from my apartment of the planes landing.

I've watched approaches for 17 from the Post Office on whatever street that is nearby where all the hotels are about a mile from the airport just east of Semoran Blvd.

Well I've just made arrangements to come over to Orlando and meet someone on Sunday Oct. 5, so if any of the locals want to meet up w/ me. I'll be available before 2:00 and after 4:00. Will this new runway be accessible on the south side? When does it open?

Ozell,
I will be there after work on Sunday the 5th. Email me with a meeting place. I work at WDW and does not take me long to get to MCO. I get off work at 1700 and can make to the field at around 1730.
