Qantas Skybed And LAX

An associate of mine just returned from Sydney and claimed he flew on the new Skybed on the route (in both directions). Is that correct? Has the Skybed been introduced between LAX and SYD?

VH-OJL is the only aircraft fitted with the Skybed. Her first Skybed service was SYD-BKK-LHR on Saturday, returning to Sydney on Tuesday to operate SYD-HKG-SYD, which returned on Wednesday. I saw her at the Jetbase on Wednesday. So in a word, no, he did not see the Skybed.

If your friend flew First Class he would have had the sleeper seats that have been installed in First for many years. Otherwise in business he would have had the 'Dreamtime' seat pictured here.

As per Qantas marketing the first scheduled (meaning there could always be an occasional service through aircraft changes etc) service of QF skybeds into USA is not until around April next year with full integration by September 2004, whence the 2 class 744's will be fitted out.

Thanks AJ for clarification which was the first aircraft to be fitted out.
