I was just wondering, are there, at any airport, gates that can accomodate such planes as the CRJ -200, 700, 900 or the ERJ-145, for ex. ? Are such gates even possible to manufacture/install at an airport. I mean, buses between the plane and terminal can be a pain in the rear of a passanger, everyone who's ever been to an airport without gates (or skybridges, however you prefer), and that are mainly serviced by smaller planes, know what I am talking about. Thanks for taking your time to read this, and possibly answer, too.

NW has such gates at both MSP and DTW. I haven't used one, but they look quite nice, especially considering the weather in MSP and DTW in the winter. Right now, most airport terminals were built for 727's, 737's, and such. They were not designed for the RJ revolution. The issue that they now have to face is how to build for RJ's, but allow themselves to handle bigger jets if demand changes.

Buses can indeed be a pain. Often, it takes an eternity of boredom before the crowd gets to the plane or gate.
I prefer to walk on the tarmac.

MSP has a pretty bad azz RJ terminal. Not sure if they used the RJ bridges though. It's pretty slick going down the escalator and seeing the nose of a 146 in the window. It's a nice touch. There is a company that makes JetBridges specifically for RJ's, but I don't know if anyone has put them in an RJ terminal, or if they've just used them in a modified pre-existing facility.
There are apparently quite a few airports that have jetbridges to accommodate RJs and even props in some cases. I was surprised to hear that ATL is one of the larger airports that does not have jetbridges for the RJs (well, at least for DL Connection flights, not sure about everyone else...).
The only RJ I have flown so far was a Midway CRJ from JAX to RDU in 1999. Both airports used jetbridges. Although the jetbridge at JAX was on a lower level than the others. Midway operated CRJs as mainline planes, so to some travelers, I am sure it didn't seem much different than a regular jet.

ABI recently reconfigured its terminal with two gates that have jetways specifically designed to accomodate RJs. I believe they can also accomodate Saab 340s, but not EMB-120s (I think the props are too far forward on the EMB-120 for a jetway)

Here in MSP I think our jetbridges were made by Bombadier. I could be wrong but I think they were made by the same company that makes the CRJs.
As far as I know C17-C21 can handle mainline planes as well as CRJs here in MSP. I've driven C21 and its configured for a CRJ but NW used to park DC9's there and now we park ARJs there. Think all the new gates are that way. Rumor had it we were going to start parking CRJs on those gates but the latest rumor is we are going to park them on B even side. MAC just recently painted the lines to allow more room for them. We'll see soon enough Im sure. They're slowly taking over.

In TUS the airport just put in a brand new jetway that is RJ capable...even the CRJ...it's excellent. They put it at Gate 14 where the smiling jets of PSA used to be...it was nice to see it up and running again. Unfortunately the airport wants to charge too much money so no one is using it right now. We were using it for our CO ERJ's but Continental won't pay for! Such a shame. We'll have to stick with our metal plank for now.

Philadelphia opened a little over a year ago the Commuter Terminal F, which serves US Airways Express exclusively I beleive. ERJs / CRJs do indeed dock at jetbridges. The Dash 8s and 328 Props don't connect to the jetbridges however (correct me if I'm wrong).
All the other Regional Jets at PHL (Eagle, COX, UAX etc.) park with their big brothers at the other terminals and passengers sent outside to board the planes.
I think Big Foot is blurry, Its not the photographers fault. Theres a large out of focus monster roaming the countryside

Some of the Dash-8's at Term. F are hooked up to the jetbridges but not always...not sure why, and yes USEx is the sole occupant of F now that AirTran has shipped out to D...Ive also seen AA Eagle's ERJ's docked to jetways over in A-East...

Here in EUG, we have fairly new "contraptions" called dockloaders that we use for our CRJ-700s and Dash-8 Q400s. They're similar to a jetbridge only in the idea, however they are stationary. There is a platform that raises and lowers depending on the height of the cabin floor, and then an "end ramp" that moves left or right, to line up with the doorway, and then rotates down into the doorway. It also has an inflatable canopy that will inflate down to the aircraft, making a seal with the skin of the aircraft, keeping all the passengers out of the rain. Its not too bad, as long as the captain is paying attention to you as you're marshalling the aircraft in...there is VERY little room for error.
I do have to say that last time i flew home, on my return i flew from CID to MSP on a NW Saab 340, the "jetbridge" in MSP, which reminded me of what we have in EUG, was very nice.
As a footnote, if I recall correctly, QX Dash-8 Q200s use a jetbridge in YLW and I thought somewhere else...can anyone help with that?

I remember one time flying from LGA-IND round-trip on a Chautauqua RJ (US Airways) and found it awfully strange that LGA uses the airstairs and IND has a jetbridge...especially because LGA's operations (save their mainline flights to PHL, PIT, CLT, MSY, Shuttle, and other weekend flights) are nearly exclusively RJ's...almost seems strange to me that LGA-IND is an RJ flight, where BDL-PHL-IND and back are mainline flights (and the BDL-PHL flights are widebodies)
