Hi all-

I'm flying AA for the first time in like 10 years on Friday... they offered me a complimentary Platinum AAdvantage membership and some complimentary upgrades.

So, I'm now within my 72 hours, and one of my connections on that day have cleared, but one hasn't.

So, I checked galileo data for the flight that hasn't and I see:

FRI 10OCT03 WASHINGTON /DALLAS/FT WO *AA
1 DCA DFW 0631 0835 AA2245 F4 A7 Y7 B7 H7 M7 K7 Q0 W7 V7#757*C
2 DCA DFW 0723 0934 AA1357 F3 A2 Y3 B3 H1 M0 K0 Q0 W0 V0#S80*C
3 DCA DFW 0836 1043 AA1675 F4 A2 Y7 B7 H7 M7 K0 Q0 W0 V0#757*C
4 DCA DFW 1003 1215 AA1213 F3 A1 Y5 B5 H0 M0 K0 Q0 W0 V0#S80*C

I'm used to flying on UA, but, by this time if my UA flight looked like this my upgrade (or someone's upgrades) would have cleared.

Can someone tell me about how AA clears upgrades? Is it different? Or am I just confused?

N

Gigneil,

You cannot use the "F" inventory (or "A" which is a F/C award inventory) to guess if you will get the upgrade or not. AA uses X-inventory if your using the upgrade type that I'm thinking you are. It's been a few months since I've been on Sabre, but if you can pull up an inventory-specific scan on what you have above, request X. This may explain why your UPG hasn't been cleared. In either case, when you check in at the airport, you can request to be placed on the airport upgrade list.  Smile

Hope you have a pleasant trip on AA!

I'm using 500 mile segment upgrades...

I got the data from seatmap.com. That's about the limit of my abilities.  Laugh out loud

I have an unbelievable amount of respect for reservations agents, CSAs, and travel agents. If I had to figure all this out and apply it in all its infinite iterations, I'd be a babbling wreck.

Couple of questions - 1. What do the numbers next to the booking class mean? The number of seats available in that inventory?

2. How do I access Sabre information?

Thanks!

Mcmahonsmr, the numbers next to the class are the number of seats they are selling in that inventory to the specific agent or market. Airlines can block off specific classes to specific markets and agents. It also does not mean that there will actually be a seat on the plane!!!

To access Sabre information, you have to be very good friends with a travel agent  Big grin

Gigneil,

Cool, you got to bring up X-inventory.

I would guess that one slot may go to someone who put in a request before you or maybe an Executive Platinum.

Yeah I bet they hold it to the last minute for an Executive Platinum. I think DL used to do the same thing for PMs back in the day when I lived in Atlanta.

But I assume if the F and A class inventory doesn't sell, they clear those out to upgraders, correct?

Thanks for all your help A752.
