They have a proposed start date of mid December 2003 to April 2004. As per the company they will be operating a 738 but rumors here say 2 738s coming from Excel.
Any other info about the operation would be great and thanks in advance.

Sunwing will have 2 737-800's flying in December. They A/C will be leased and operated by Kelowna Flightcraft. And yes both A/C are coming from excel. Sunwing will also have a 727-200 on standby just in case one of the 738's goes mechanical.

Now technically the NG's don't go mechanical, but for some strange reason ramp rats driving ground equipment like to put holes in shiny new airplanes. So there is the possibility that one will go down for maintenance. Most likely the 27 will be used for additional charters. I heard today that in exchange for lower lease fees from Excel, KF will be providing pilots to fly the 738 when it returns to Excel during the summer season.

Andy,
I've heard the the Excel A/C will be flying into YLW for a brief visit, so all the KF employees can see what the new addition to the fleet looks like. Then the A/C will head to YHM so the new FA hires can be trained, before heading to YYZ for the rest of the winter. The are about 17 mechanics, both YLW and YHM based, on a 737-800 maintenance course in YLW right now, so I assume the A/C will be appearing shortly.

I am guessing that they will be hiring about 60 back end crew which would be 6 crews for each plane but it all depends on how much flying they have. Does anyone know how many people they are looking to hire?

I heard that they are only hiring 15 flight attendants, beacause they already have quite a few on staff from the summer charters.
Andy,
I thought you might like to know that KF's latest 727-200 Freighter conversion for purolator is almost complete and will be heading you way in about 2-3 weeks with a modified paint scheme.

Yes Andy,
Its true the -100's are slowing being phased out, Purolator doesnt want to fly them anymore, the only reason KF still flys them is cause the can't sell or lease them to someone else. I'm sure KF is trying to decide what to with the remaining few -100's. I've been told that the lastest -200 freighter conversion will be replacing a -100 in the Purolator fleet and that N885AA sitting in YLW will be getting a Cargo Door put into it in the spring to replace another -100. No word yet on which 100's will be pulled from the fleet
