I noticed the upper deck door exit (not cockpit exit hatch) on B747-100s and 200s are mainly on a/c right, but a few aircraft of both the 100s and 200s have their exits on a/c left - anybody know why this is? Does an airline have an option of which side to have the exit? Boeing change a design issue?? I happened to notice Iran Air has different B747-100s with exits on left side and some on right sides...

examples:

It was a customer option to have either a left or right side exit, or indeed one on both sides.

Just to help you a little, to put an a.net photo in your post put photoid:xxxxx between two < >,
