Hi all. I was wondering what is DL's current flight schedule from PDX. Also, what will the flight schedule be once the new time table comes into effect? From what I know, DL is serving SLC, ATL, CVG, and like a once daily DFW on a 738 or something. Also, didn't Delta drop PDX-JFK? or is that route still running with 738s? Also, I've heard CRJs will begin service to PDX on behalf of Delta Connection from SLC, is this true? If so, when will this start? I know Comair and ASA fly CR7s into SLC, so maybe it will be a CR7? Or a Skywest CR1/2? Anyways, thanks for any info! (why do I have a feeling QX is going to start PDX-SLC?)

The JFK-PDX flight has been removed, there may be one-stop service through CVG or SLC, however.

I spot-checked the March schedule and PDX-SLC has 2 B738s, and 1 SkyWest CRJ flight.

A sign of things to come wiht DL.

First Alaska, United , American West now Delta is adding crj's! This is truly awful news for PDX. Delta is presently the lone airline that operates wide bodies passenger service out of Portland. Now with the new spring schedule were down to only one. Is the passenger count to and from Portland that bad? Eventually this airport will become a regional airport in every sense of the word...The Port would have saved a lot of money instead of expanding the terminal area, they should have paved the area where the new terminal expansion stands with more apron area for CRJ's......I'm going to have to start going to Seattle for spotting because Portland is becoming way to depressing to look at!!!

Well, this might not only be a sign of things at Delta, but maybe more so a sign of the times for Oregon. Don't forget that Oregon has the highest unemployment rate of any state, the highest percentage of residents living in hunger (according to Federal statistics), and also the highest number of KKK members outside of the deep south. Since the dot com bust, it doesn't leave that much desirable of a population base to fill widebodies...

The lone wide-body may even disappear from DL's PDX schedule. There was a flight and cabin crew base @ PDX, but that was removed from the rotation along with MSY, ORD, and IAH from DL's bases. So the 767 may not be a DL regular @ PDX soon!

What's your source for this? This is an assertion I haven't heard of previously.

I had a look at the DL schedules for March 04, and here's how it looks:

PDX-ATL: 757, 2x738 (same for ATL-PDX)
PDX-CVG: 763, 738 (same for CVG-PDX)
PDX-DFW: 738, 733
DFW-PDX: 733, 2x738
PDX-SLC: 2x733, CRJ (Skywest), 738 (Same for SLC-PDX)

So, looks like only one more widebody trip out of PDX, and that's to CVG. Sure would suck to be on that 738 for 5 1/2 hours to ATL...

By the way, Leneld: Lufthansa and Hawaiian both fly widebody equipment to PDX, in addition to DL...

Flashmeister is right, HA, LH, and many cargo widebodies fly into PDX. Forgot about them!

No I haven't forgotten about them...Oh by the way Cargolux will be exiting the Portland market at the end of October...I sure the other wide bodies that you mentioned will follow!!!!

Actually, from a cargo standpoint, I think PDX is pretty safe. SEA is all but maxed out in capacity, and PDX/Oregon have a much larger manufacturing base than SEA/Washington does. I just read that Air China is retiming its departures from PDX to allow better onward connections of cargo in Asia.

UPS and FedEx also fly widebodies from PDX. The Cargolux departure is partly attributed to cargo loads on the new LH flights. The other cargo carriers are mostly Asia or within the US. One bright spot...PDX has lots of cargo space available, unlike Sea-Tac.

Interesting about Skywest CRJ's coming back. Horizon has replaced some Alaska SFO flights with CRJ's, and United Express will also have some flying to PDX. Hopefully it won't become like, say, Tucson, which has become RJ land.

Delta dropped the JFK-PDX flight long ago, when it dismantled its mini-gateway to Asia from Portland. For a brief time, Delta shifted its PDX-NRT flight to operate it from JFK, eliminating the need for a PDX nonstop to allow connections to Asia.

The New York-Portland market right now belongs to Continental, which is the only carrier with a nonstop in the market.

Delta operated JFK-PDX with A310-300's, 767-200's, 757's, and finally, the 737 800 before the route was canned.

Mfricke, you're comment re: Oregon having a high % of KKK members is downright nutty, please state your source when posting such acusative comments.

Back to the subject of airlines...PDX will get more mainlines back once the economy recovers...that fact that intel has its largest world-wide manufacturing base in the pdx area and the local firms serving intel and related industries have had to issue high layoffs as a result of less tech demand is a big fact for the state of the economy. Things will get better as portland still attracts an amazingly high nflow of people moving to the area (whether they have a job prealigned or not) due to the quality of life...this brings talent and creates a high-skill labour pool for when the economy does pick up.

ANd DL has what? 5 gates at PDX? No wonder they loose some money, they have no need to lease those gates. I never see any more then 2 DL planes at PDX and I go there rather often!

Flyboy80.. You are right.. As much as I love our airport and enjoy spotting there frequently, it is obvious that Delta is losing money here in Portland. It wouldn't surprise me to see even less service from Delta in the future.. It kind of sad though, we have such a nice airport with only a small amount of traffic compared with other mid size airports.. Maybe 20 years from now the airport future will become brighter...Who know.....

Why did PDX undergo such a major expansion/renovation if there isn't enough traffic to support it? What's going on in "C" terminal with Alaska downsizing?

SPTV..Concourse c was rebuilt and expanded as the result of the so call "Southwest affect"....Also at the time Alaska Airlines was expanding operations here and needed more gates also....Now all of that has changed dramatically.. Alaska is shifting flights to Horizon Airlines which board most of its passenger directly from the ramp and Southwest hasn't added new destinations here or added frequencies to cities it presently serve from Portland. At this present time, the Port of Portland could easily use concourse D and E to support the entire operations out at PDX leaving the airport with 26 unused jetways on concourse C and B..Maybe the Port was planning for the year 2020..HA...HA...

There was a recent newspaper article about DL cutting back on leased space at PDX - gates, office space, etc. - by terminating or changing part of the lease agreement.

The big expansion began when the DL mini hub existed and before the Oregon economy went south. Not just high-tech, but the economy is highly dependent on manufacturing in general. The grand opening of the finished south concourse was literally just a couple of days before 9/11/01. It's a beautiful building....a real improvement over the old one. It can be kind of spooky...I got off an Alaska flight one night last year and was the only person standing in the whole concourse. Too bad the Horizon area wasn't expanded instead. There were plans for a second terminal, plus a third runway in the area occupied by the air guard and one of the golf courses to the south.

DL began dumping the PDX hub years ago. They couldn't get the numbers they needed to the pacific rim. Don't expect DL to do much ever again in PDX.

Good points Airnondo, PDX is still one of the most appealing places to live in the US, even with a shit economy. Mfricke's comments were way off base. However, its not the talented young people who fill seats, its people who can afford the tickets. I think PDX will always be a good niche market though, and who knows what cool services they might get once the economy is back. BTW, when is NW going to announce its decision on the possible PDX-NRT service? I don't know what DL reducing PDX service means to the likelihood of this service but If NW was smart it would pick it up and ram the 332 to the gills with cargo. I don't think they will but I'm still curious to hear the announcement. It would be nice to have another big 'bus to spot at PDX.

Leneld: no, can't use concourse E...that's United's area, and DL runs a CRJ from E7. I haven't heard of any plans by UA to reduce flights to/from PDX...if anything, they'll increase once they put starfish in there, and given PDX's tendency towards LCC's, starfish will do well in PDX.

I don't have an official source on the KKK thing, but I did live outside Portland for 12 years and also knew that OR had the largest KKK population outside the south, but that was several years ago, I seriously doubt that's the case now. Also, I had a friend from college who grew up in Grant's Pass, and confirmed that statistic also. The area around Grant's Pass/Medford/Roseburg is the alleged area.

PADDY, I think they said NW was to make it's decision in about a month from when their management team was here in September. I think we will here by the end of October if it's a yea or nea.
