I saw in the SF chronicle this morning an advertisement from ATA. They were promoting their new SFO-Newark service and also it stated that in Jan 2004, a non-stop to LGA. Anyone have any info on this? Maybe a misprint or a jump of the gun.

They are indeed starting it. Commercials are flooding TV too about this proposed service. I think there was a discussion about this some time back.

Cheers

SFO-LGA? What happened to the 1500-mile perimeter at LGA that forced HP to abandon LGA entirely when they smashed their CMH hub? (yes, I'm well aware that US is now flying LGA-LAS nonstop on Saturdays, a route that I travel fairly often for business)

Did ATA get a beyond-perimiter exception for SFO? I missed that one... or is this one-stop/direct service through MDW?

It has to be nonstop, as there is already service MDW-LGA. ATA is expanding alot in SFO. EWR, now LGA. Two NY area airports. I wonder what will be next. Im thinking maybe a SJU route.

Maybe it is only on Saturday. Isnt the perimeter rule not in affect on Saturdays?

The service is direct via Indianapolis to skirt the perimeter rule. The routing will be LGA-IND-SFO-HNL on a 757. Separately, ATA is launching daily EWR-SFO non-stops at the end of this month. All of this is a part of the Honest Growth campaign announced at the end of July.

I am looking at the advertisement in front of me now in the SF Chronicle and it states " Nonstop service to LaGuardia starts January, 2004". Is this a misprint? SFO always had direct service to LGA.

Sorry, one more note. I just saw on the ATA flight schedule that flight(s) 8 and 10 are Nonstop from SFO to LGA and they are operating on other days than just Saturdays with 752 aircraft.

You cannot fly into LGA from beyond Denver on any day except Saturdays, it must be a miss print.

ATA is launching new nonstop service to EWR from SFO, besides the FAA I think the Port Authority would have a problem with a carrier flying trans-con from LGA. Trans-Cons from NY fly out of EWR and JFK, LGA is for shorter segments.

2 nonstops from LGA-SFO, and SFO-LGA operate on Sat. only. 1 stop traditional service, for the rest of the week.

That is very exciting to hear this. They did not annouce it in a press release which makes me wonder if it is a mis-print. From what I hear the SFO-EWR are filling up nicely. That was a smart move for ATA now I wonder what will be next. They seem to be letting lots of other routes get snatched up like SFO-BOS. I hope they finally do SFO-MCO as there would be little competition on that route.

I think that SFO-MCO and maybe SFO-FLL could come to be soon. It looks right now like they are expanding SFO-Northeast. Maybe if slots could be found, there would be a SFO-DCA. I think that maybe TZ could expand the SFO-Mexico market, to go head to head with AS. How is the CUN flight doing? I also think another one could be SFO-SJU.

I believe it is Saturday only service for the non-stop flights... every other day requires a one-stop in Chi-town.

Can someone please explain to me why there is a 1,500 mile rule for LGA. What is the purpose of this?

SFO-FLL would not surprise me, but I would not hold my breathe for SFO-SJU. That route just isn't going to happen.

SFO-SJU (not going to happen anytime soon), but other routes that I could see them operating out of SFO are to MIA or FLL, MCO .
MCO-SFO I'm sure would work out, only United flies the route nonstop and Olrando needs a low fare carrier on the route.

So no one knows why there is a 1,500 mile rule for LGA?  Sad

My guess is that planes with enough fuel to reach more than 1,500 miles would be too heavy to lift off from LGA's shorter runways.  Confused

ATA's schedule shows them offering one nonstop flight each way on Sundays as well. The website shows sold out for them but it is on there. Is this possible that there is Sunday LGA-SFO nonstop service?

I saw the same ad in the SF Chronicle, and I wondered why no one had said anything about it on here.

Then I thought that the TZ powers-that-be might have yanked on the choke chains of the employees regularly posting here. But that's just the conspiracy theorist in me.
