What Happened To The Eastern Terminal At JFK?

What happened to this terminal? How was it? How many gates did it have? When was it demolished?

I was in there ONE time. Nice, spacious, airy, back in 1993 I think. It was demolished shortly after to make room for the present Terminal One.

I worked in the old Terminal 1 for 3 years. It was really run-down and exploring the "basement" was pretty scary. Lots of old/unused offices, lockerrooms with plenty of Eastern stickers. The baggage systems broke down on numerous occasions. While I worked there, it housed MGM Grand Air (us), Tower Air & America West. It was replaced by the current T1 in the same location.

It was replaced by the terminal 1. I believe the original Eastern terminal also housed Avensa/Servivensa and Ladeco.

Wow....I remember seeing that old run down terminal from rampside before they demolished it to build the new terminal 1. That was one ugly looking terminal!
