In that pic, its between the fuel farm, the west-side of the Delta ramp, and south of Loop Rd. Right now, its a cement foundation and some cement walls. I can see them working on it from the tower on C but, I haven't noticed much progress lately. Hope that helps.

Delta took over the old EA hangar in the late 1990s (1998 I believe) after trying to get it since Eastern folded. The City refused to let them lease it, and the City was trying to get another airline to come in and use it, and they used it in 1996 as a processing area for the Olympic athletes and international dignitaries. The City was rumored to have tried to woo Valujet into taking it, but VJ was not really interested in it due to the problems it was going through post-shutdown and restart. So after trying to find a new occupant for seven years, the City finally relented and leased it to Delta. I still think that AirTran should have just taken over the Northwest hangar, but they said that it is too big for them. My guess is that NWA was wanting to charge more to sublease it (they have a lease through 2006) than they were paying, and AirTran felt it would be cheaper to have a new one built for them. What's funny is that I have seen AirTran park a/c inside of the old NWA hangar, and use the ramp there to park spares.

As a gate-plotter, I LOVE the Northwest Hangar pad. Anytime we have early RON aircraft that don't need any MX work, we send them over there for the night. It's not uncommon to see 717's, CRJ's, and occasionally, one of our 3 DC-9's parked over there.
