Could Copa Airlines join Skyteam? It would make sense, they basically just a South American Branch of CO. All of their ads in Latin America say, affiliated with Continental Airlines, and their liveries tell that too:
well, anyway. Skyteams presence in South America really isnt that great, and Copa has quite a network in South/Central America. My question is, will Copa be invited into Skyteam? Avianca, which has some ties to DL, could also be a possible canidate couldnt it?

Well im pretty sure that when CO enters skyteam after klm and northwest, for sure CO will tag along copa.
Hey, ive seen the 737/700W in Mex and it is a really cool plane, we at Aeromexico are really happy that we soon will be getting them, the first one arrives between tomorrow and the 22 of october for a total of 15 initially because the dc9s are going away, and then come the 50 md80s to be replaced, so i see some good things heading our way, and skyteams way!

One glitch for that to happen, is all the codeshare and partnership agreements COPA currently has with Mexicana, a Star Alliance member. Plus, in Skyteam, South Amercia is already covered by Aeromexico (Lima, GRU, SCL)
Plus EZE is going to be serviced soon again by MX as well as BOG, CCS, SJO, PTY and El Salvador. So COPA is pretty much an orphan out there. They should stop whining and join the TACA group, or be fully integrated into CO's ops. This is my humble opinion...

Ar385: Welcome to the forums... I respect your opinion, but I really doubt Copa is feeling as an orphan down there. It might have no siblings but believe me, they have a hell of a big mom (Continental) which has a greater presence and market share every day.
I'm not certain but I heard MX pulled out of PTY due to low load factors. It turned to be more profitable to code share with Copa. Can anyone clarify this for me?
Javo... is AM still flying to GRU and Lima? AM rules !
There are no stupid questions... just stupid people!

MEX would only work as a hub for pax connecting between North & South America; it's too far west. Copa at PTY is far better positioned as a hub for connecting between Europe & S America as well as between N America & S America.
Now, if only the Venezuelan government had accepted KLM's offer to buy Viasa. Maybe VA would still be alive and then CCS would be the perfect SkyTeam hub for Latin America...

We yet have to see if Continental will join Skyteam.
COPA and Lloyd Aereo Boliviano kicked Mexicana to the curve on the PTY-MEX route.
Coulda... woulda... shoulda...
instead KLM bought Kenya Airways. Kenya Airways is doing very well. By the way, the Venezuelan government intends on resurecting VIASA as a the new national airline for La Republica Bolivariana de Venezuela "CONVIASA".

Well yeah, AM flys to GRU,LIM, and SCL, and told to me buy our chief pilot, that with the arrival of the B737 they want to complete the Lima flight to make it daily helping out the 757 which serves lima 4 to 5 days a week, so the other 2 will be filled by the 737. Also there was something about starting up direct flights to EZE from MEX using the 767 300 that arrives in december. maybe they will do it seasonal due to argentinas poor economy. but we will have to see.

I've seen a few items about CONVIASA but no real details, other than they plan to be operational by the end of next year. Don't really expect that the current administration would be capable of running an airline any better than they're running the country. The first thing that springs to mind is that President Chavez would love to see Aerpostal bite the dust given that he seems to be out to destroy private business in Venezuela. What I'd really like to see is Aeropostal get some decent a/c, drastically improve it's service & start flights to Europe, NYC and the major Latin American capitals.... Ahhhh, wishful thinking.

Continental already flies from IAH and EWR to PTY so I dont think there is a need for Copa to fly to these cities. Maybe we could see them add service to other U.S. citiies
Now this is just me speculating

I dont see them flying into EWR/IAH only b/c why would we want them to put competition on ourselves. We do own almost half of the stake in the company, so I'm sure HQS tells them we dont want them to fly our routes. But I would sure love to see them in some other cities, SFO, FLL, JFK,
