In a recent article the Sacramento Bee, posted a article stating that Sacramento International Airport was building a third runway, expanding the International Building, and this was all due to forseen growth and International service.
At current the only International Serice to Sacramento is on Mexicana to Guadalajara, Mexico this service then continues to Mexico City, Mexico! The service is operated on a A319 and A320!
At current the largest passenger aircraft at Sacramento is the Hawaiian Airlines daily 767-300 nonstop to Honolulu!
At current the only Charter Service is to Kahalui/Maui on North American Airlines 757-200
At current other widebody services included Fed Ex DC-10 ops!
Of course there is the nonstop flow of Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines.
Alaska, Aloha, American, America West, Continental, Delta, Frontier, Horizon, Northwest, and Skywest offer daily service as well!
*It is rumored that JetBlue is looking at SMF-JFK or SMF-LGB*
What is the chance of American starting a SMF-JFK?
What is the chance of Continental starting a SMF-EWR?
What is the chance of Delta starting (they once were set and ready to go, but it was never inaugurated) a SMF-JFK? or SMF-CVG?
What is the chance of Northwest starting a SMF-DTW?
**Is the Sacramento County Airport commision avidly looking to pull in more international airlines, or international charters??
Air Canada to Vancouver??
Martinair to Amsterdam (now from Oakland)??
CorsAir to Paris and Papeete (now from Oakland)??
TACA to San Jose or Guatemala City??

I don't think Corsair nor Martinair flies to OAK anymore. The only international airlines that fly out of OAK are Allegro Air and Mexicana. You could probably include North American and Ryan International to that.

I used to use SMF a lot, living in CIC. It's a fun airport. I remember a few years ago, in 1999 or so, they built a new terminal. Previously there had been one terminal with two concourses divided by a restaurant. Does anyone know about the current status of the older terminal, and what the airports long term expansion plans are?

Kl777jfk, not to burst your bubble but B6 has been rumored to be going everywhere you name it....there has been a rumor. Possibly they could make LGB or JFK work, seems like a long shot in my mind for JFK.
Your best hopes with AA lie back in the laps of upgrading DFW and ORD and if things get much much better possibly STL again although I've been warned of future cuts. No JFK, sorry.
SMF-CVG could be a possibility down the road. JFK is not, it is fed mainly to support their Euro flights, and I'm assuming SMF doesnt have enough Euro Pax to justify a route like that.
SMF-EWR??? I honestly have no clue. Don't have much insight on CO and their plans. Regarding the entire NY area, I don't think SMF can justify a flight with their pax base. I mean....PDX-JFK didn't even work on DL. You have a bigger customer and O/D base there, so logic would implicate that a SMF-NYC route wouldnt work.
Regarding the international carriers, they will more than likely just stick with their guns at SFO. Asia flights are pretty much out of the question, and Europe is also, more notable cities such as MCI, MSY, and STL would get it first. Regarding the international flights, More charters to Mexico would be my guess. AC to YVR seems feasible but besides Mexico and YVR I don't think you'll see any other type of international expansion.

I love SMF, have driven many a time out there simply to avoid the dump that is OAK.
