Anyone know what the reason would be for ElAl to fly a 777 without "ElAl" titles and without the Star of David? The swooshes were still there.

TIA
Sunil

All of El Al's 777's are fully painted and are all exactly alike.

I read somewhere that yes there are ones with out all the normal El Al markings, those planes get used also by the charter division of El Al. And they get flown on the Sabbath as well. So that could be another reason for less markings.

Sorry guys  Smile havent seen Charlie Bravo in awhile...and the only reason LY would do such a thing is for security reasons. The 777's do fly charters on behalf of other Israeli airlines and i guess that this panit scheme is for security reasons only.

Alonk,

Sorry to tell you.. but you are %150 wrong..

the markings are because this aircrafts are used for SUN-DOR flights.
that's the one and only reason, as per el al.

if the plane is with, or without the words "EL AL" or and the star of david on the tail, it's just as recognizable if you have the slightest idea how the EL AL scheme looks like.

This two planes (a 744, and 772) are additions to the dedicated 757 in the SUN DOR markings. the planes fly weekends when needed, and usually not scheduled for transatlantic trips on weekends so they are in Israel. (and not parked on the ramp in jfk for exemple, of the course of the weekend).

Danny.

cockpit? it's that little room in the front of the plane where the pilots seat.. but that's not important now

Such a shame that terrorism even has changed the way that the industry paints its own aircraft

Sun D'or isnt the only charter airline ustilisng the el al 777's on charter flights.there is also Israir and Arkia.furthermore, it would be pretty stuipd for El Al to remove markings just beacause sun dor uses thier planes, they removed the titles a few days back because they are planning on flying these planes to specific cities over the world, which i cannot tell for specific reasons, and they removed them so they wouldnt be rcognizable.thats all.

Gee then I guess the big security secret is out now.
`They' would never have guessed it was Israeli otherwise.
Sure sure.  Insane
I'd say Sun d'Or, or similar, explanation is the correct one.

The whole idea is pretty dumb to me. If a terrorist seriously wanted to do some harm and cause destruction, the planning would be immense. Anyone that has a scanner ($100.00-- nothing to a terrorist with huge budgets) can listen to "El Al heavy cleared to land "...etc. Not only that but the terrorist would have researched the plane and I am sure that everyone on this site could ID the owner of the aircraft without titles and the Star of David. If removing the titles and star is a security measure, it is not a very good one and is a waste. There must be another reason.

Security has simply nothing to do with this.

It is maybe stupid, but it is the reason...; the "El Al" name doesn't appear on a plane which is not operating an El Al flight.
I don't know why they re-introduced this policy, which had changed with the introduction of the new livery. Indeed, it is the first time I see El Al planes wearing the new livery without the titles and the star. But at the time of the beautiful old livery, it was very common to see planes without titles and without the Israeli flag on top the tail. The airline's two 737s were even permanently like that throughout the 1990s...

You know....terrorists are sadly not that stupid....

And do you really think it makes the planes unrecognizable...??!

I bitterly miss the livery that should never have been changed (repetition...)

Nethkt,

the reason i have told you is confirmed by an EL AL 772 captain.

Danny is right, but I believe there is also a second reason. El Al is not allowed to fly on Sabbath. An orthodox Jew seeing El Al in the sky on that day would go nuts. Since Sun d'Or is not restricted the LY titles are removed.
Also the CAL 747's had their titles removed to be able to haul cargo 7 days a week. Nowadays they leave 'm white, just as simple.
BTW, also saw 4X-AXQ at AMS on Oct. 17, old c/s, without titles.

As I stated on a related topic, if needed they will change the flightnumber to be able to fly on sabbath. An ELY fltnr became ICL, and all the rest stayed the same.
This goes for cargo flights, don't think there would be pax on such a flight. On their (friday) flightplans there was a noted when sabbath becomes effective. On heavily delayed flights, cancelation was possible.

The only question which remains, is why they operated Sun d'Or flights with planes in the full livery during almost 4 years and have now decided to return to the old policy (the one they had with the previous livery).

Do some of you honestly believe that an El Al airplane sans star and titles will elude even the dumbest of the dumb terrorists, or any other nutbar who has a beef with Isreal??!!! C'mon!!! Rise above the stupidity, people! Don't pretend to be as dumb as a terrorist!
