I´m not quite sure, but I think it was Finnair, either in 1990 or 1991!

Best regards,

Dirk.

Believe UA and AA jointly launched the DC-10 in '71. I know the MD-11 was launched in '86, but not sure who was the launch customer. Know the first one was delivered to Finnair though.

Finnair was the launch customer for the MD-11 with an order for four aircraft and was also the first airline to take delivery of an MD-11 (OH-LGA, 1st revenue service on 20th December 1990, HEL-TFS).

Swissair is also counted as a launch customer and was the 2nd airline to receive an MD-11.

British Colodonion was the launch costumer of the MD-11, but the order was canceled when they merged with BA.

If I'm not mistaken,

the bird was launched by British Caledonian and Delta, but first flight was done by Finnair.

Delta, however, claims it was the first to fly the bird on its website... but it wasnt.  Wink/being sarcastic
