Actually for travel dates of Nov15 returning on Nov21 American or America West are the cheapest, $262. AirTran checks in at third@ $267. The Dogbus (Greyhound BusLines) was next @ $269(Five Days of travel! Think of the adventure.) JetBlue was next @ $270. Amtrak (the train) wants $299, most of the rest of the majors are just over $400.
Now getting from Wooloombai Forest To Lax is your problem.

Just this week America West launched new nonstop flights from LAX to JFK. Their fares are in all likelihood cheaper then those on the so-called "legacy" carriers.

The price depends upon when you wish to travel. To give you some indication of one-way fares, they can be as low as £80, so long as you don't mind flying via a few cities enroute (I certainly wouldn't mind! In fact, the more the better!). Visit travelocity.co.uk for info. You should be able to get a return ticket for under $250 - which might involve, if you so wish, travelling via, say, a total of 6 cities.
