Just saw a post of someone going from England to Australia and wishing to know which routing is best, via LAX or BKK.

Well, I had little choice. Next December I will be flying to Delhi MEX-LAX-HKG-DEL. Instead, I could have chosen to fly via Europe. However, the long routing was much cheaper... It is high season so tickets were U$2,900 from MEX-Europe-DEL. However, flying with CX reduces costs to U$2,200... I think U$700 is good reason to fly a little longer.

In fact, I will be flying 17.935 km o/w, 22% more than a non-stop linking those two cities... or 14% more than routing via Europe.

Anyway, I will be doing a stop-over in LAX to visit Disneyland, and a second stopover in HKG.... Not bad at all...

What would you have done?

I think you have chosen good flight and routing as well. 700 $ is a lot of money and with this money you can already have a very good time at Disneyland and HKG as well.

Pedro:

Try to find a cheaper airfare, back in 1995 during the high season I got an airfare of $1,300 incl. taxes MEX-DEL, the route was MEX-JFK (DL), JFK-AMM (RJ) well worth the visit to Jordan, and AMM-DEL (RJ).

I f you need more info send me an email

Well maybe almost 10 years but the point is that you´re paying a lot of money, but if you want that, right now BA has a fare for less than $1,500

LH via FRA = 1580 $
BA via LHR = 1629 $
KE via LAX and ICN = 1711 $
AF via CDG = 2001 $

Not only that, but you'll get to fly CX as well, which makes it even more attractive.

May I ask what airline you were planning to fly via Europe?

You have a good deal for the dates in question. Heck, you are lucky to have found ANY seats with only a month notice.

I hope you're a member of CX's Asia Miles FFP because you will get massive miles for such a route. Please dont let this opportunity slip by with regards to the miles/points.

Don't any Asian airlines fly nonstop from MEX to East Asia? I thought maybe Japan Airlines or Korean did. Then you could do this trip with only one stopover.

Why not do some weird routing? MEX-DFW-NRT-HKG-BOM-DEL  Big grin should make it more interesting.

What would you have done?

Hmmm since all fares between Dec 19th till January 7th will go up... I would have flown the way you'll be flying..... if fares on those dates would be as KAL744 point out I would have chosen BA or AF.

Why didn't you tried flying AM #745 MEXDEL??? or MX #300 MEXCUN-DEL??? Big grin

The fares I mentioned above are possible until Dec. 15th. So I still think you got a very good routing for a good fare.

Anyway, have a very good flight !

So you finally bought your ticket!!!

Enjoy your trip and if you can (depending on your fare) try to get Rubi status from any OneWorld carrier. It is a plus that you can get for future travel!!!

I can't imagine you doing any better than you did. If MH still flew to MEX, you could have tried them, but flying with CX and doing it cheaper than with a US/ European carrier, you just can't beat that. Frankly, I'd have expected that to be more expensive and not just because it's longer.

You did really well on that - well done! And bon voyage, buenos viajes and turas shona dhuit!

I was also thinking in flying MEX-YYZ-DEL. That would have been superb... But I was unable to find decent fares.

Alberto:
Yes, I already bought them all, including Druk Air CCU-PBH-DEL. And I have already become an AsianMiles member to add this 17,000 miles!

Pedro,

I have a guide to HKG which I bought when I went there a couple of years ago. If you want it, I can give it to you, so that you can plan your stay there.
