Hey,

I saw on justplanes.com and on Air Caraibes website that they are starting service with an Airbus A330-200 from Martinique and Guadalupe to Paris with an Airbus A330-200. Now I noticed that the picture of the A330 that they have, the aircraft has GE engines. Is this aircraft being leased from Air France as they are Air Caraibes partner for flights?

The Air Caraibes livery looks awesome on the A330 by the way.

Regards,

BWIA330

Does anyone have any info at all on this Air Caraibes A330. It sure does look good from the edited picture that I am seeing. Hope to see some nice pics of it on airliners soon.

I've also seen it on justplanes.com.

It's rather an intriguing scheme. Indeed it looks like it has GE engines.

There are now many start-up that want to break AF's monopoly on the dom-tom market: Air Austral, Air Bourbon, Air Caraïbes...

But I've been reading that this was a will of Mr Raffarin's government just after AirLib was dissmissed.

BTW, Corsair f/a, is the situation good in your company ?

HB-IQB is presently in the hangar for pre-delivery modifications, painted in basic Air Caraibe colours (no logo or titles yet). From what you can see through the racks, it looks beautiful!

Unique:

If I understand well the situation, LX got rid of its MD11 to acquire A343 they didn't need and now they get rid of rather new A332 ???
What's the strategy behind this ?? Will they now get rid of their A320's to buy 737NG ??

@FB

The strategy behind this is the reduction of the fleet....... As simple as that!

Cheers, Thomas

Flying Belgian, I'm not involved in LX hence don't shoot the messenger...! It has been decided to bring down the numbers of long haul aircraft - A330's belong to this category. IQB as well as IQD are planned to go to Air Caraibe, a third one is being sold as well.

No way though for B737's - LX is an airbus operator (plus some regional stuff taken over from Crossair).

They have surplus A332s, perhaps? The A332s I think are rather lowly utilized now, only flying to BOS, JFK, ORD, YUL, KHI via DXB, and the occasional LHR run. Quite few for 13 (now 12) strong fleet.

BTW doesn't Swiss A332s have PW powerplants?

Thaks for the info guys. So the New Air Caraibes A330 is an ex Swiss bird, so that means another PW airline. I thought they were coming from Air France because they have GE and Air Caraibes is partners with Air France.

@ Unique:

I'm not shooting at you, but I was rather puzzled at LX's strategy.
I still don't understand why they acquired those A343 as the MD11 could fly for long still. Look at Finnair !!!
The 737NG was just a joke  Big grin

Flying Belgian, Airbus pilots can also fly A340's but not MD-11's. That's probably one of the best reasons to phase out the MD-11's and replace by A340's. And probably LX gets good money for the MD-11's since they're well looked after. If they wait much longer, the market for MD-11's is probably dead.

Just my two cents...

Well, no luck with this bird this weekend... It seems as if it was only outside on friday....

Question: A friend of mine has a friend who knows somebody who has heard of somebody who was told by someone  Wink/being sarcastic that this a/c would be flown to DUS next Tuesday... Can anyone confirm this?

Regardless the beauty (relatively) of this new bird, this is a sad reminder of the old days when Air Outre Mer got started ! Initially exactly the same route, same enthusiasm against AF and the so called "service public" ! Everybody just forgot to notice how much public money was injected into such venture ! Can only wish them well, and hope they have a better future than AOM, Air Lib and Aéris !!

I've never seen or heard of them coming to YUL. Is there any chance they might start North American scheduled flights at some time in the future? BTW I really like the idea of the Traveller's Palm on the tail.. very appropriate.

Hi FlyingBelgian,

At Corsair for the time being everything is ok, new plane will join the fleet and Air Caraibes is not a threat for us as there are not enough seat available from Paris to the French west Indies.

BTW: This a/c was out of the hangar yesterday/saturday morning, we got it on a photo-tour, but not that good, as it was "stuck" between the silencers.

Fisrt flight is on December 12 to FDF (Fort de France). There will be 3 flights a week to FDF and 4 to PTP then in Feb a secand A330-200 will join the fleet then FDF and PTP will be 7/7 withe some flights doing CAY (Cayenne French Guyana)/FDF/ORY.
In fact the real name is Air Caraibes Atlantique in case that the longhaul flights don't work, the caribean flights will continue.

Corsair will lease for the winter season a A330-200 with pilots from Air Louxor until April 04, and a A330-300 from LTU with an all LTU crew.
And the A330-300 from Skyservice is still in the fleet until sep 04.

25 Airmale: Livery reminds me of the Bounty Choclate wrapper, nice though.
26 Unique: The 2nd A330 is HB-IQD, presently in the hangar at ZRH, being prepared for Air Caraïbes. It will take a couple of weeks though until it's finished...
