Hey folks....We have been discussing it to death here. Where will AirTran go next? Well folks, they have been listening to us!!! There is a survey at airtran.com where they ask what city u want them to serve next, and they have a list..

http://airtran.com/atlanta/

go there and choose the city. Maybe for once they will listen to us!!! I sure wish Southwest did.

I chose STL naturally....what did you guys choose?

Alex.

I chose a write-in of CAE. After Air South left 6 years ago it's time again for an LCC. Granted it won't happen because we'd have to fly into ATL probably, which is DL territory and DL would probably start a fare war like they did to KBB when the started getting more customers on the CAE-ATL route. However, I can certainly hope for an LCC serving us soon.

If AirTran starts service near me I would most likely use them but I would want status. Does anyone know if they comp status (I am American and DL platinum)

The big deal is the ability to have a greater choice in fares and a greater choice in airlines. Most importantly, the ability to save money by having a low-cost alternative to major airlines. After all, not all of us have money to blow on First Class.

Who should care? People on a budget (like my fellow college students), individuals at poorly served airports, people at airports that completely lack any LCC presence.

I picked SDF... They were here before the Everglades crash of ValuJet and would love to see the low fares back to ATL.

I would love to see them in SAN. I enjoyed flying FL when I was in Florida a couple years back. We need some more LCC variety in SAN. I know I am along with lots of others sick of WN.

CMH (Columbus, OH). We need another LCC (we have SWA) but have lost ValuJet, TWA, Delta Express, most of America West and Midway in recent years.

Canada! YYZ or YHM. So many Torontonians already drive the 90min to BUF for Air Tran flights.

We need 717's in YYZ. It legitimizes my handle.  Big grin

Panam, TWA, Ansett, Eastern.......AC next? Might be good for Canada.

AirTran JetConnect start ATL-CHA.

Montreal YUL: we are collectively too poor to afford regular air fares to the US so service from Montreal has very little if any growth potential left. Most people take the bus everywhere. It's the poorest big city in North America, a natural draw for discount carriers. Those of us who can afford to fly usually go to Toronto and use their Mega hub (soon to be Canada's Mega Mega hub) to get anywhere because service from YUL has very limited opportunities and we are way over served for our pathetic little market as it is now.. So a carrier like Air Tran would be a welcomed site at Dorval but hey if they serve Toronto YYZ then that would also be good because we could still use them like we do now and I guess that would make way more sense given Toronto's enormous GDP, massive population base and tremendous limitless overall potential. Montrealers could at least fill up the back of the plane if there are any empty seats left out of Pearson. So YYZ or YUL..

LOL, yeah I agree. I'm only joking of course. It would be nice to see Air Tran in Canada and likewise for Westjet into the US.. Valuejet did do a Montreal-Washington run for a very short period of time but ultimately failed. Papers at the time here speculated on Valuejet's bad marketing and misunderstanding of both the international market and the differences in the French Canadian market relative to the American one. Who knows but in the end they quickly pulled the plug and left. I'm not so sure they'd be so quick to return here. Perhaps Toronto would really be the best place in Canada for them to start.

Doug
PS: I'll keep the death spirals amusing in future...

As for YUL.....I doubt any of the same mgmt team from Valujet remain with Air Tran. I'm sure the prior poor results for IAD-YUL would not impact any future YUL analysis.

Of the list of choices listed on the site, the following are ex-Valujet or AirTran cities:

CLT
CHA (Flightlink service by Grayhound)
CMH
DTW
BDL
SDF
BNA
DSM
IND
OMA
TYS
CVG

I voted for SLC, I'd like to see AirTran enter another Delta hub city.
