6th A340-600 G-VATL was delivered TLS-LHR on the evening of Fri 31st Oct. First revenue flight is planned as VS11 LHR-BOS Fri 7th Nov.
A340-300 G-VSKY is planned to operate its last revenue flight for Virgin today as VS603/4 LHR-CPT-LHR. It will position to Bristol Filton as VS813P on Wed 5th Nov for maintenance prior to delivery to the French Air Force.

Why are they taking the A340-300's out of service. They still have years of life in them, and the oldest are only around 10 years old! I'd much rather they kept the A343's in service than they get more A346's. In my honest opinion i think the A343's look best in the Virgin scheme and i cannot believe they're going so soon
Where are the other A343's due to go when they are retired? What aircraft will the PHC route be operated by?

2 343's are supposed to be leaving this year to go to the French AF but I don't know retirement details of the other a/c. Originally they were supposed to go back as the 600's were delivered but that hasn't happened. G-VAIR and VELD are due to be repainted in the new livery in Nov so I guess some of them will be around for a while.
The 600 carries +50 more pax and +10T more freight than the 300 for not much extra fuel burn, and being the launch customer I imagine VS got them for quite a good deal, so it makes economic sense to replace them.
