There's a cover story on the A380 in the international edition of Businessweek dated 10.11.2003. It's also available online is you have access. The story didn't reveal much in the way of new information, aside perhaps from the fact that Airbus is succeeding in funding 5B if the project's cost from cash flow.

They must feel very proud to be able to fund a minority portion of a new aircraft program as they become the world's undisputed leader in commercial aviation.

Who says Airbus paid a "minority portion" of development costs?

"Airbus would have a bit of a safety cushion because the low-interest loans provided by European governments would not have to be repaid in full."

This is accounts for $ 3 billion in "loan" funds.

$5 billion is less than half of $13 billion.

It said, fund it out of cash flow. They are also going to re-pay the loans to governments (at least the way things are going, and according to the article they have to partially repay also if the project doesn't work out).

It's deppresing how some people appear to be so bitter over the fact that the A380 hasn't flopped yet.

Joni-- It's deppresing how some people appear to be so bitter over the fact that the A380 hasn't flopped yet.

A lot of it may just be related to indoctrination from their society, and the extreme difficulty some people have in coming to grips with new realities in the world which they may have been brought up to react with hatred to if the indoctrination is proven false, or things like that.

$5 billion is less than half of $13 billion.

That doesnt necessarilly a minority. What if Airbus funds $5billion and 13 othe stake holders give $1billion each. Then it is a majority.
