I was looking to fly on a Continental 757-300 in Feb or Mar, and I cant for the life of me find any routes that they are on. If anyone can tell me what has happened to them or where CO will be bringing them that would be great.

I can find one on FLL and still looking for others... This is from EWR, there might be some based on IAH too.

What about down to MCO? I am sure they will be flying them to MCO a lot in the winter and spring due to people from northern climates going to Florida.

They don't have many 757-300's, so you won't find those on many routes. They have 4 of them now, if not 4, 5 but not more than 5. They originally ordered 15 units but they recently converted 6 of those to 737-800's among the remaining 11 they still had on order at Boeing. Their 757-300 fleet won't grow much, it'll grow up to 10 units at the very most. Yes, they are based in EWR and are assigned to Florida destinations, because EWR-Florida is the only sector in Continental's system where there is a market for the aircraft. There a lot of leasure travellers living in the area of NY City flying down to Florida for Thanksgiving, X-Mas holidays, February/March...hi-peak seasons in the year. FLL and MCO are two good examples for leasure destinations.
I'm not sure there are any 757-300's based in IAH eventhough it's Continental's largest hub.

I was in Honolulu in late September and there was a Continental 757-300 resting at a hangar, it could possibly be running Micronesia routes. Other than that I have no clue.

I think EWR is a larger hub than IAH (even though IAH is its HQ), in terms of pax/flights. Can anyone verify this?

I think CO uses the 753 on their IAH-LAS route...

All 4 753s are in use on saturdays out of EWR I doubt that they are running them over to guam durring the week. The 753 could have flown LAX-HNL as an equip sub as they have common crews with the 767s at CO. Guam has its own crew base for the 737s out of there but not for the 75/6s CO once flew GUM-NRT on a 764 with EWR crews. There hasent been anything in the EWR 757 bids with 753 flying out of guam, so Im notsure what the story is.

Nope, they're not in Micronesia. In fact, there aren't any 757's flying for Air Mike these days. Just a couple of 767-200's for GUM-NRT and GUM-HNL, and the rest are 737-800's. CO's 757-300's are primarily flying EWR-Florida (CO / KMCO), USA - Florida">MCO, PBI, FLL, RSW) with the occasional trip to IAH, LAS, CLE, and BWI here and there (I'm probably missing a few flights here or there). I'm actually a bit surprised that PBI gets two 753's most days.

I don't know where you're at exactly, but if you want a 753 and are not particular about the airline, you might also try either Northwest or ATA. Northwest flies a few of them from Detroit, Minneapolis, and Seattle. ATA flies a number from Chicago-Midway, with some also continuing on from west coast cities for Hawaii.

CO has 4 757-300s, they will take delivery (soon) of an additional 5. Their original order was for 15, however the 6 remaining 757-300 orders have been converted to more 737-800 orders.

The 757-300 serves a similar function in CO's fleet to their old A300s, albeit much more cost efficient. In the Winter months it's mostly based at EWR with flights to Florida and some Carribean routes, during the Summer they operate mostly from IAH to California, Las Vegas, Denver, Seattle etc..

Seems like I remember reading a Trip Report on a CO 753 from SAN-IAH, but I think it was Labor Day?? I didn't realize they had so few in their fleet, especially when using one for CLE-LGW. I guess you make do with what you have. How many 753's does CO have on order ?

Continental has the 762 still, right? And they've got tons of 752s, right? So, why are only 4 airplanes such as the 753 required? To me, it just doesn't make any sense. Now, I understand that pre-9-11 I'm sure that they saw a market for them, but then they traded their orders for 738s...if that's the case, why keep the 753? Or, are they able to make a few bucks with it? Are any more on order with Boeing? I'm a little suprised that even after it's debut only a mere FIVE years ago, that the whole line is gonna be closed down. For those airlines looking for a 762 replacement, it's a good bird in my opinion. But then, Boeing's in the habit of building at least two planes of the same size at the same time, I have noticed. Just my two yen...

Yes and yes

if that's the case, why keep the 753?

Why not?

It has perfect commonality with their 752s major commonality with their 767s, and there are some CO markets which justify its use.

Up until the end of October, CO 423 IAHMSY was a 753... Most days it left full... Leaving a few standby passengers behind.

Working very hard to Fly Right....
25 Scottb : Basically, the continuing weak market for network carriers, coupled with a desire to conserve cash, is why CO converted the balance of their 753 order
26 777gk : In addition, there are no 767-200 series in Micronesia, all are the Hawaii-configured 767-400 with 20/236 configuration as opposed to 35/200. 767-200s
27 IndustrialPate : 767-200s are used almost exclusively transatlantic... Up to three daily flights between EWR/LAX will be operated by the B762... looks like CO may be t
