Last I heard they were going to start with 2 NON-stops to DEN in February. Is that still a go?

Just a simple question here, but why doesn't United already operate this route from their hub in DEN? At least on a seasonal basis.

That's a VERY good question. Several years ago UA use to fly that route with DC-10s! UA has been a very small operation in PBI. Cutting down to 1 flight in the summer and usually a maximum of 3 departures during peak season, February thru April, all to ORD. I've heard that once Starfish starts up, PBI is a prime target. Perhaps they'll look at the PBI-DEN market again, especially if F9 is going to jump on the bandwagon.

I haven't heard anything about new PBI service. Biggest news regarding Frontier's Florida is the announcement of red-eye's from DEN to TPA,MCO,FLL, and RSW, due to start in December.

DEN-MSY-PBI with a daily A318 has potential written all over it. They could do nonstops on Saturdays and Sundays as well. We'll get there eventually.

Seems kind of odd. PBI is a pretty high-yielding market. While the tourists usually come in Y, the residents commonly leave in F (well, there are enough of them that do fly F to fill up F cabins).

PBI high yield, are you kidding? With Southwest, AirTran, Song, jetBlue and Spirit? I doubt it.

You bet it is high-yielding. Palm Beach county has one of the highest average household incomes in the United States. It is an extremely wealthy area. Just because Southwest and other lowfares are there does not make it low yield. What I said was that the people coming in come in Y, but it is not at all difficult to sell out the F/C cabins with PBI residents, who are among the nation's wealthiest.

as a longtime Resident of PBI, I'd love to see F9 start service from DEN!! UA abandoned us years ago... all we have is a few flights to ORD. One question for John. RE: UA flying DC-10's DEN-PBI.. could you be mistaken and be thinking FLL instead? I don't mean to challenge, but I've lived in SOuth Florida all my life .....

I think UA DC10's flew PBI-MCO at one point...or was it RSW-MCO?

I'd love to see Frontier flying to PBI. It was the Palm Beach newspaper that said the city and the airline were "negotiating."

But I don't think anything will be announced until Frontier's gate problems at DIA are resolved.

Which may - stress may - be sooner, rather than later:

Just because Palm Beach County is a wealthy area, doesn't mean that these people aren't looking for low fares. And besides, many of the super rich have their own jets, ie: Donald Trump, Jimmy Buffet. Just look across the field at Jet Aviation during peak season. The percentage of people flying on full fare Y or F tickets has dropped significantly and that's a fact. Rent/landing fees at PBIA are some of the highest in the country, by the way.

the rent/landing fees may be high but the administration at PBI have a number of nice perks in place to attract new non-stop service, including waiving certain fees for up to a year. National was on board for non-stop service to LAS, and FinnAir was due to start weekly PBI-Helsinki service....and then 9/11 happened.

I know it doesn't. Does not change the fact PBI is a pretty high-yielding market.

Ask Delta how much yield they're getting from their ATL flights....How about PBI-NYC? Ya think that's a HIGH yield market?

MAH4546 is 100% right. palm beach county has plenty of residents that look for low fares, and also has a tremendous amount of those that can easily pay for a first class or business fare.

and john, before song or jetblue came along, i flew EVERY OTHER NIGHT on the DL 763 flight to LGA from PBI. first class was consistently sold out every time and upgrades were virtually impossible to come by, even as a platinum medallion flyer, and vice versa on the flight back to PBI, which was the 4 o'clock 763. of course PBI-NYC flights on DL aren't going to be high yield! they're being flown by a low fare airline! but check on the seasonal AA flights to LGA that start in a couple weeks and you will find that first class is always full and it's full with full-fare paying passengers.

I was down in PBI last week and couldn't believe all of the empty ticket counters and gates. It seemed like a lot of carriers only have a few counters/gates.

I can't seem to figure out why they don't have more routes to other hubs in there. Something must be high, because you think there would be an IAD-PBI flight for UAL at least.

right now there are only 2 vacant gates at PBI.

The only VACANT ticket counter space left at PBI is next to Northwest on the left and at the very west end next to Southwest. I understand FRONTIER will be contracting out to another airline if they start service at PBI and oddly enough, that is rumored to be US Airways.

I think that DEN-MSY-Any City in the Western Hemisphere has potential written all over it!!! There's definately a market and I just cannot fathom why none of the airlines fly this route!
