PWM Expanding The Runway?

On a recent trip back to Maine where I grew up I noticed that the road that runs perpendicular to the end of the runway near route 95 has been moved back about a thousand feet. Is there a plane to extend the runway to allow at least a few larger jets into PWM. I don't even know if anyone if fimilar with the area but let me know.

From what I could find, and what I have heard they are upgrading the lights, approaches, and navigation associated with the main runway (the one you are talking about) The are also reconfoguring the access roads. A combination of the above is probably the cause for the move. The last few times I went to PWM I went in the other way so I personally have not seen the road. Their runwy is currently at 6800ft, which is sufficiently long enough for what goes in there, however lengthing it by 1000ft would allow widebodies in there. Lengthening the run way would let them take some diversions, but there is not enough traffic in there to warrant widebodies. So I guess it might be happening but Im not sure.

Ifly....Are you talking about the new entrance and roads...?? That was done about 2 years ago as the people in Stroudwater area where getting tired of all the traffic..so you can't even get to the airport that way anymore. As for lengthening the runway...you really can't....at one end of the runway is Portland Sound and the fuel depot, and at the other end is I-295. As for diversions.... PSM is just a few short air minutes down the coast along with a MUCH longer runway and BOS and BGR just just a 'hop' further away. If I where headed home to Maine for the Holidays I'd find out, but we are swamped at work....so I'll be staying here in BNA........Now maybe one of you local flyer's can help me.. Last Feb. when I flew home I noticed we did a different approach into PWM then I have ever before. We where coming in from over the ocean and went past Portland headed toward Yarmouth before turning straight in...in the old days I'd always cut the corner and fly over the Portland Head Light and SMTC, then right down the harbor and over the ferry terminal. Did they change the approach for noise..???

EMBQA. I was just there two week ago and I noticed the same thing. I remeber as a kid banking hard to stay away from the oil depot(thats what I was told) This time we flew right over them. It's funny you mentioned that I thought the same thing. Don't know who to ask though, guess I could look at the approach plates sometime.

I Flew down there this summer in a 152and I went in through the cove then turned around the oil depotand then on to 11. I dont femember any construction on the runway. PWM is prety confined.
