NW ship 6316 (N676NW) will return to service today as NW19 MSP-NRT. It'll operate as NW27 NRT-BKK tomorrow and NW28 BKK-NRT / NW18 NRT-JFK Sunday.

Ship 6316 is NW's newest B744 - she was added to the fleet just over a year ago. She's been painted in the new c/s and is the first B744 to be configured with the new WBC. Economy is suppose to remain virgin, but maybe we'll get a surprise and see the new interiors + AVOD PTV Entertainment systems!

Let me know if you're on one of these flights!!

Is there a press-release associated with the new WBC installation? I will miss the old economy seats. Nothing like 55 D-E-F-G all to yourself to get a nice comfy cot!

The power-ports use a standard 110v port. I also am fairly sure that Y on the 330s have power-ports for rows 10-25.

What happened to the original plan to only repaint planes as they came due for scheduled painting? Now they're painting planes that are only a year old. I can see how for marketing purposes it's good to have passengers able to associate new colors with new seats, but Southwest has been putting new seats in their planes without repainting them.

In any case, I'll be very surprised (although pleasantly so) if the economy seats are replaced.

I believe this aircraft was painted to reveal the new paint scheme to the public, three aircraft were painted and revelaed on April 3rd. A A319 at MSP, a new 757-300 at MSP and a 747-400 at DTW.

Timf,
Good point. I'm pretty sure the B752 operating within Asia were painted prematurely as well... I'm guessing NW wants all of its Pacific/Atlantic aircraft in the new c/s... I'm seeing a ton of new colors, almost seems like NW is ahead of itself...

TWFirst,
Let us know what he thought about the new WBC!!

BN747,
I'm not miffed at you; 6316 is not scheduled into LAX yet.

It's 10:45 am EST on Sunday, and my partner is due to land at JFK on NW 18 from NRT at about 1 (according to nwa.com). He was able to send an e-mail around midnight EST during his layover at NRT (connected from NW 28 from BKK) and said the plane is NOT reconfigured (according to info above, same aircraft flying BKK-NRT-JFK).

SO: Do you know what happened Industrial Pate? Was there an unexpected delay in getting it into service, or could your source have been mistaken??? I feel bad because I got him all excited about the new seats and the power ports. He was a little hesitant to fly NW for those long flights in the first place because they don't (or didn't up to this point) have the ports and this was a business trip and he needed to use his computer.

TWFirst,

I don't know what happened; 6316 was reconfigured , operated BKK-NRT on 10/9 and will complete NRT-MSP within 10 minutes.

Ask him again, I guess -- maybe a different ship operated BKK-NRT...

So, to repeat an earlier question, will they have PTVs in Economy?

It would be a pity to spoil a well earned reputation by making passengers feel more comfortable, but I suppose if they have the money to spend, they might as well do things right.

Oh please, half the comments I read on this board about NW are absolutely ridiculous... most flights across the Atlantic DON'T have PTVs and it's not like the average person cares, anyway. I've flown trasnocean enough to realize that only a small portion of passengers even bother to turn on / watch TV -- on the USA-Europe portion, most people just want to sleep.

NW offers a very good overall product unpar with most of the compeition... like I've said before, DL has the most basic product across the pond but nobody on a.net complains. One one aircraft, the colors of the overhead bins (cream vs. white) didn't even match!

I'm done ranting.

Originally above, you said it was to operate NRT-JFK... did they switch it to MSP instead?

The reconfigured plane was supposed to operate DTW-NRT on November 8. This would put it into NRT at 4 pm on November 9, and BKK at 11:50 pm on November 9. It would then return from BKK at 6 am on November 10. I think you were a day early in expecting the reconfigured aircraft in BKK.

I just flew on the plane. I just arrived on NOV 9th NRT-BKK with the new WBC. Seats are very nice although the same complaint that I have with all of the new lie flat beds is they are not too comfortable for tall people b/c they don't support my knees very well and my legs ache horribly after several hours. I have the same problem with CO and BA incidentally. I actually prefer the older seats.

Anyway while the seats are good I also got to sample the food service. I wouldn't exactly call it an improvement. They really need to fly CO to see how food should be served. A al carte just seems way more professional.

The AVOD was also disappointing. Buggy (which is to expected I guess) kind of cheap plastic for the controls. The movie selection was crap but that's NW's problem not the system.

Overall it was a slight improvement but not a drastic difference I was expecting. I would rate the seat better than BF on CO, but the overall service, even on an Asian sector, has not improved much at all. When you are paying multi-thousands of dollars for J class, you want to feel just a little bit special. The seats aren't going to just do it.

I do have to say that the silver planes are awesome looking. We had to use the airstairs in BKK and it looks really sleek, especially next to a tired UA 744.

Timf,
The plane flew the routing I wrote in my first post. I clicked a wrong button and made an error - it did indeed fly to JFK.

Good point, Haveric LOL... but I deleted my user name there after one person continually trolled me  Sad.

Now that I've re-read everything, there appears to be a discrepency. You reported the following schedule:

MSP-NRT 11/7-11/8
NRT-BKK 11/8
BKK-NRT 11/9
NRT-JFK 11/9

On the other hand, Newswire (which I was quoting) reported the following schedule:

JFK-NRT 11/6-11/7
NRT-DTW 11/8
DTW-NRT 11/8-11/9
NRT-BKK 11/9
BKK-NRT 11/10

Based on posts so far, it did NOT operate BKK-NRT on 11/9, but DID operate NRT-BKK on 11/9. This would indicate that it is following the Newswire schedule and not the schedule from your source.
