Anybody out there who flew with Aerolineas Argentinas in the 1980's and would care to share his experience? I'd be much interested.

Well, yes, but i was two young to remember. However, my parents tell me that we flew GRU-EZE in 1987 and then EZE-RGL-AKL.. Service was excellent, however when we flew AKL-EZE in 1994, on a B747-200, it was one of the worst flights ever. Everything from food, to seats, to cabin service was the WORST.

Philaboy,

Since my mother is from Argentina I flew many times there specially in the 80's on Aerolineas Argentinas First Class. Since I don't remember much, I was hoping you could talk to me about the service in general, the food, the flight attendants, in general, all those things that make an airline a great one, because I'm sure AR was, I just can't remember much. Maybe your parents can. But at least in First Class I heard comments like they were better than Air France or Lufthansa. Can you help me?

Ar385,

I have flown Aerolineas Argentinas in the mid 90s (so little bit off topic) on a flight from MAD to EZE and back, but I was very satisfied. Crew was very kind, service also quite good. That time I had to choose between LH, IB and AR and in my opinion I did the right choice in choosing AR. Really great flight !

well Ar385

Really the can't remember what food was served, but they flew economy and it was the best in the world, (at the time) and my parents do travel alot. However, in 1994 AKL-EZE, food was cold, hard and a little raw, wine had a slight fiz to it and F/A got pissed at my mom because she couldn't understand spanish and the F/A's english was bad. Plus, there was a big black line in the middle of the movie screen. And ontop of that, we arrived late in EZE missing our connection to MVD

One word sums the overall experience on AR in the 1980s: Average.

Today, the airline remains just that: average.

I remember a world class airline , and that is what makes me so sad, it's been destroyed, (we kow by whom) I've travelled over the years in Lloyd Aereo Boliviano, RG, AF, Am, Mx, AA, UAL, BA and many more and I can't recall such attentiteve crew, fantastic food, great seats, clean aircrfat and things like that. Once I was 12, they me took to visit the cockpit on a 747-287. We were an hour out of MEX, and the pilot asked me to stay in the cockpit for the landing! Boy, it was the experience of my life, ('till then) And those landings were the greasiest, smoothests I ever expereinced in any aircraft. In fog, in storms etc. I thought it was the 747-287 that landed like that until I flew IBERIA and landed in Montreal in a clear perfect day. Talk about bouncing around.

I hope this thread grows and many more people write to keep it growing. These memories about a great airline that was literally ran to the ground need to be remembered.

Which European destinations is Aerolineas Argentinas serving nowadays?

Really hope to see them back in FRA or AMS in near future.

They only serve Madrid. Through Madrid, they have an MD88 that goes on to LGW and CDG. Maybe somewhere else too.

I bought a "visit Argentina" pass from them back in 88/89. Flew from AEP to Bariloche, Igaucu, Ushia & Punte Del Este (please forgive spelling). By the time we where done we had the entire domestic menu. We flew on a couple of 727-200 and 737's. Most interesting event was in Ushia. The wreck of the 737 that had overshot the runway the previous week was still there! That was not a pretty site.

I've flown Aerolineas Argentinas 4 times from MIA-EZE-MIA, once in the 80s, twice in the 90s and once in early 2003. In 98 it was MIA-Cordoba-EZE-Cordoba-MIA. All flights on 747-200s except this year on an A340-200.

The service has always been good, the cabin crew nice and only once was there a significant delay. The '98 trips were on planes that were less than half full, all others were full or almost full. The '98 flights were memorable 'cause I got to sit on bulk-head or exit rows near the galley and was able to quickly get drinks when ever I wanted due to the small load. Plus I enjoyed chatting with the flight attendants. The F/As were very nice and they made the one stop flights both ways very enjoyable.

All in all my experiences with Aerolineas Argentinas have been very good and I won't hesitate to fly them again. I'm glad to hear the airline's fortunes are improving lately.

cheers, Ralph
