I just saw on the local news here in Los Angeles that BA 268 en route from Los Angeles International Airport to London Heathrow has diverted to LAS. I have checked the BA website and it states that BA 268 has arrived at McCarran.

Does anyone have details as of yet as to why? The news stations here were not too descriptive.

Local media here in Vegas report the pilots reported smoke in the cockpit. According to KLAS TV the plane has been checked out and will again take off for LHR.

Thanks for the info! I am tracking the flight now: http://www4.passur.com/las.html

By the tracking, it seems as if the aircraft is flying a zig-zag pattern presumably dumping fuel for landing at LAS.

I watched the local news at 11pm PST and they shpwed the plane sitting on the ground at McCarran from one of their weather cams. The indicated the plane would be leaving for LHR soon. Didn't hear anything more about during the newscast.

The flight tracker on Yahoo still indicates the airplane is on the ground, as of 12:51am PST.

Quick question, but when a plane diverts like that, how do they get the pax from LAX- LAS who are going out that night to LHR? Do they try and hustle them on to whatever airline they can? Or do they roll out a spare if they have one? Sounds like a nightmare!

i think usually the pax just have to chill with the plane until its fixed. otherwise if its going to take so long that it will cost the airline majorly in missed connections, etc...they might try to get them on a flight to connect to another BA flight for example....or use a partner airline to get them to LHR.

happened to me twice and a friend on another occasion.

was going to fly BA from istanbul to heathrow, however incoming A320 G-BUSB had to make an emergency landing in Budapest. So they told me they'd send me to LHR on Turkish Airlines, or wait til the next day's flight. I chose to wait til the next day.

another occasion, was flying BA from LAX to LHR and then CDG. BA didn't show up for some reason so I got sent to Paris with a UA 767. This was a long time ago, perhaps early, early 90's.

My friend was supposed to fly ZRH-JNB with Swissair. However MD-11 which was supposed to take them down to south africa was the doomed SR 111 HB-IWF, which never made it to Zurich.

so instead he got sent on south african...i believe a 743. nice looking stewardesses apparently.

anyway, does anyone know what happened to BA 268, why it had to make an emergency landing in LAS?

BoingGoingGone

i think we are talking about a different diversion.

BA 268 was said to have taken off from LAX en route to LHR when "something happened" and they had to dump fuel and land in LAS.

nothing to do with the socal storms.

westerndc1010 said smoke in the cockpit

just was curious to know what the cause of the smoke was, etc
