I have heard that with AF teaming up with KL they will be next. I have read here on the forums and on line and in the future there will be MX after their merge with AM and soon SU/ME/RO/CO/NW/CM/VS/EK/SA/MH/CZ/JM/AV/CI/LY/KQ/GF and others. What do you all think and why? Who else could you add to the list.

Well, since NW and DL now have a domestic alliance, I'm sure NW will be "sponsored" by DL into Skyteam...

Finally made it to an airline mecca!

Where did you get that list ???? It seems that ALL the airlines in the world will join SkyTeam... !

Let's be serious. Next members are, of course : KLM and then NW and CO Probably.
AEROFLOT is to join the Alliance before the end of this years. Middle East Airlines (MEA) should join in 2004.
Talks are in progress with MH (Malaysian), SAA (South African Airways), TUNIS AIR and ROYAL AIR MAROC

But, you know, in the aviation world, everybody is talking with eveybody...
What is sure today can become very uncertain tomorrow...

We can say, at 99% that the next members will be KL, SU, MEA.

Don't see a reason to have ROM, MEA and Tunisair in one alliance. That would be too much crowd.
The same with Delta, CO and NW. CO shoud go for Oneworld with AA. Then each of three bigest aliances would have 2 major US cariers.

Exactly and this is not an merger by AM-MX, too. It is just for only a rumor about more experience of codeshare or not. I heard about MX is leaving from Star alliance and is that was true once before? These is no longer use with MX from alliances either. Well, talk ya later!  Smile

The CEO of MEA, Mohammed El-Hout has stated that MEA will join Skyteam by the end of 2004.

I think we will see MEA grow at the end of the year in the Middle East, mostly in frequencies and maybe a few new destinations in order to provide better connections for Skyteam.

MEA, while it does only have 9 aircraft at the moment, can operate much higher frequencies on its Middle East routes.

MEA has a much larger schedule in the summer than the rest of the year. For example, right now Abu Dhabi (AUH) is 5x weekly, but during the summer it is daily.

So they DO have the resources to increase frequencies and they most certainly will when they join Skyteam.

Danny,

Do you think the merging process of big majors in the US has stopped already ?

Considering the financial situation of all the US airlines today (I am not talking about the LCC), I don't think they will all remain on the market in a medium term. DL, AA, and probably UA will. but CO, US, NW will probably merge with one of the three above...
And I see very well DL+CO+NW forming one airline...in SkyTeam  Wink/being sarcastic

Danny, why do you think CO should join OneWorld? It's been said that CO and AA are more or less natural enemies, with JFK/EWR and DFW/IAH hub competition.
