That was the first jet I ever flew as a co-pilot and as a captain. Learjet 24D-286. My old boss and co-pilot were at the controls. Thankfully the're all o.k. Sad to see my old girl up in flames, even though that bitch tried to kill me, too.

Sounds like a flock of birds got them.

Hey Learpilot, since your the pro here I'll ask you this. Do you think this may have anything to to with that AD that came out on the learjet about the trim? Was this A/C one of the models that had to me refitted?

They hit a flock of birds on takeoff and trashed both engines.

The AD on the trim actuator was on the model 45. They were in an old 24.

Cool, thank you. I just remembered hearing about that AD on the lear but thats all I knew. I'm still stuck flying the C-172's so don't have that knowledge yet! Birds, damn they can be a pain in the ass. Thanks Lear.

Lucky guys, seems the plane did a little spin before stopping. Remember the fire started after they got out so I assume it was in one piece.

Do you work at POF or STL?

I'm not sure about it being in Mx for that long. I know they recently had the hot section inspections done on the engines, but they just did the proving runs with the FAA earlier in the year. It sits so much because they just don't have any business for it.

I could be wrong, though, since I unfortunately don't live in STL any more, and I've only been there once since I quit last July.

Those are 4 VERY luck(y) dudes.

I'm at STL. Funny that they have no business for it. The Barons are running non-stop and the Caravan is full nearly every night lately. They are looking for a pilot, I guess one quit.

Yeah, right now it's the only MultiAero aircraft we're fueling. 22PB is parking at Signature, jumping in a Baron and running checks. In fact, I get to climb up on the ladder and fuel the Caravan tonight. What fun.

(I'm short and don't enjoy fueling Caravans)

pilot..i've seen you around..hehe, i'm in one of the tugs with a plow running containers to our SDF aircraft when you drop by. I unload feeders every once in a while, but not are frequent as in the summer.

Just a side note, 694MA had a bird strike on final @ STL last week. The bird hit the prop and windshield, but no visible damage. Fun times for Multi-Aero pilots...

Sounds like N694MA is a bird magnet. DB hit a bird in it about a year and a half or so ago on final to STL. Almost impaled it with the spear - I mean the pitot tube. It hit right at the base of the pitot tube and smashed a big hole in the leading edge.

I did talk to the Captain today. The first thing he said on the phone was "She almost killed me". Sounded like he's in good spirits. Just had to get some stitches on his grill, and he has a fractured vertebrae. He'll be o.k., though.

If they aren't having bad luck, they're not having any luck at all.

The most amazing thing is that he doesn't know how he got out of the plane. None of the others in the plane know either. The captain is going to be ok, he's in the hospital for a few days. The f/o is faring better. I don't know if he was released today but will be shortly. The caravan is a bird magnet. The pilot was saying he probably hits at least one every month or more coming out of Poplar Bluff.

That Lear had a ton of Gremlins. I think it might be a good thing that it's gone for good. I've heard it tried to kill a few people, the F/O on 2 occasions.

Considering the circumstances, I would consider this anything BUT bad luck. Learpilot, you and I know all too well of the captain's strong faith in God. I'm really thinking that he's right about this one.

I had a near miss with a canada goose in my 172, I looked over and this thing was flying near my port side wing spar. Scared the hell outta me. I think there were some fair sized bird droppings scattered over the local terrain as well.....
