As many of you know, Britannia is starting up a low cost airline, for your information, it will be out of Coventry, using two ex-BmiBaby B737-500's not the 737-800's as originally planned!!

You thoughts????

I have heard strong romours from an engineer who works for BMI, who had Britannia at EMA last week looking at two 'Baby' 737-500's!! BY are also aquiring a -500 from another source which is alot older than the 'Baby' aircraft

I just don't get it! There are SO many rumours going around about this.

1. Apparently, an airline with the code BAL has applied for slots at BHX for flights to various european destinations including AMS and ORY, with 735 a/c.

2. Why would the name Britannia be used when it will shortly dissappear to become Thomson Airways.

3. There is NO suitable terminal at BE), United Kingdom">CVT.

4. The midlands market is already well catered for with EZY and WW at EMA and BE and VZ at BHX. The market is already saturated.

It just does'nt make sense, maybe i'm missing something.

Regards

Mike

I totally understand Mike, but i've heard this from a strong source, the aircraft are definately ex- Baby 737-500's, Coventry seems a bit dodgy to me, but we will see!!

If you look in last week's Flight International, Britannia is looking for 737 crews to start an operation out of "the heart of England".

I think i'll just hang on until the official announcement is made, it all sounds very rumour-fed at the moment.

But do we? I wouldn't be suprised if it ends up being Thomson Express, or TUI Express!

Suppose, but at least even those names are kinda professional...In comparison to most other Low Cost Carriers!

I hope they go to a smaller airport to give that airport a little extra traffic. At first i thought maybe Teesside, but now it looks as if BmiBaby are starting one or two daily services there, so i don't know.

It'll be a good excuse for the name fanatics in Britannia to keep the Britannia name alive Big grin

I really hope they don't have it as something like 'Thomson Express'. Britannia sounds very professional and they should keep it like that. Can't wait to see the first pic of the new airline.

I think it won't be long until an LCC goes bankrupt in the UK. We already have BMI Baby, Easy Jet, Ryanair, FlyBe, Jet2 and My Travel Lite, and now we are getting this one. Also, many of BMI's and BA's fares are low, so that makes a total of 9 LCCs. I think it won't be long until the market become saturated and we start to see the smaller ones go.
