Delta has JFK-SVO, which they got when they acquired parts of Pan Am. My friends at Delta also tell me it has one of the highest incidents of air-rage. Nobody wants to bid for that trip. Could it be the flowing Stoli ?

Actually the DL JFK-SVO trip is extremely profitable for DL, they have all the US diplomatic traffic as the US stipulates that government employees must fly a US Flag carrier wherever possible. Also as I am friends with many of the FA's that crew that route, and have flown the route several times a year for the last 12 years, I can say that is it one of the most senior FA routes that DL international has. Most of the FA's bid for JFK-SVO, JFK-IST and JFK-ATH as they get more time off if they operate these routings.
Also look for a ATL-SVO route as I know DL has been talking about this for a year or two now and are trying to secure slots for the routing at SVO. Source for this is the Moscow times.

ATL-SVO should be a good route for them. I can see the potential. As far as bidding, it is a SENIOR trip. They included IST and ATH to entice crews to bid and built-in down time as a perk. It's a long hall, no question. But when you have that much seniority, getting time off isn't really a pressing issue. But the stories I've been told. Hopefully, one day I'll make the trip.

There is no question the US flag carriers need more routes to Russia especially Moscow and St. Petersburg, DL is the only US carrier to fly from the US to Russia at present time.

Gomuppets is correct, AS did fly seasonally to Eastern Russia (Khabarovsk) in the 70s, when they had leased 707s, but no longer fly there. The Jan/Feb 94 issue of "Airliners" has an account, although brief, on the Russian service.
Don't know if they would re-start service. If they did, it would be to the Pacific coast of Russia, like Vladivostok, or other cities in Eastern Siberia.

Alaska dropped Russia in the mid-90's.
Reeve picked up the route in 1996 and I believe was flying it until they went bust in 2000.
The only Russian Far East service I am aware of at this point is Mavial that puts a TU-154 in on Friday about 5 am here in Anchorage. There may be other days of the week that it comes in but that is the only one I am at work for.
Sometimes they sub in an IL-62.

Dont JAL or ANA fly to SVO? Also CX should look into the route 3 times a week using A 343s + UL twice a week via AUH or DXB from CMB then SQ nonstop B 772ERs or via BOM or AUH.
Since the Arab carriers are eager on SVO...we may see GULF AIR soon in SVO flying BAH-AUH-SVO 3-4 times a week with A 332 or GF Traveller nonstop from AUH with B 763ERs.

L-188,
Which Russian cities did AS and Reeve serve in the 90s?
The Airliners article stated that the FAs had special costumes for their Russian routes in the 70s. And that the flights ended in 72 due to lack of traffic, and returned the 707s to their lessors.
