I got a question how many hours do you need to fly overnight cargo. Then do you need a certain amount of hours to be an insturcter or you just need to get the license. Also whats the usal amount of hours RJ pilots start with. Also how many hours do you need for the major ratings Private Instrument. Do you need all the ratings to work with a Charter Biz Jet company. Thank You!

1. Depends on the type of cargo company....FedEx is the same as a major airline....alot alot alot of hours! There are alot of smaller cargo companies out there-called feeders...theyll required anywhere from 1200 total time to 2000 or so.

2. To be a certified flight instructor...you need your commercial pilots license which is 250 hours total time...among a few other breakdown categories.

3. Well.. I am a fledgling RJ pilot....I got hired with 1730 total time and 330 multi-engine...which is about the average in my class-there are a few that have over 4000 hours. Before this I flight instructed and flew some corporate charter in King Airs and Saratogas on the side.
As of now, you have to have people from within the company write you a letter of referral... they dont take joe schmoe off the street in this industry now-a-days. Our minimum referral times are 1500 total and 300 multi-engine with a commercial multi-engine instrument license...everyone also had their ATP written completed.


3. Your private license only requires 40 hours total time..most people get it in about 50....instrument rating is added on to that, thats another 40 hours or so on top of your private. Then youll go for your commercial and multi-engine..as previously stated.


4. The commercial multi-engine instrument is the basic standard for being hired pretty much anywhere to fly commercially....but got to have piles of hours of experience beyond that. Most people get those hours by flight instructing or the military. Biz jet companies...thats all about who you know. Jetguy on these boards is very familiar with that world.
