I don't know if this topic has already been discussed on this forum as i have not been participating for a couple of months but BA has officially announced that it will resume it 3X weekly service to the capital of Pakistan, Islamabad.I was watching TV today and they were showing a little ceremony launching the flights. Here is one of the links i found relating to this news. But i did not find any information on the aircraft that would be used (im certain it would be a B772) and if the flight would be nonstop or not.

From BA Website:
British Airways is set to resume direct flights to the Pakistan capital, Islamabad this winter. Flights will restart Monday 1 December 2003.
The flights will operate three times a week from London Heathrow departing on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and from Islamabad on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
We are delighted that we are now able to resume our flights to Islamabad. As the only European carrier operating flights to the northern region of the country, we provide an important link between Europe and Pakistan.
Flight out is BA129, non-stop, 7h55
Flight back is BA 128, non-stop, 8h45

Would it be worth for BA to restart an old B 744 route of theirs to ISB from LHR via MAN?0 as then they can pick up pax for LON and Northern England too and PIA does well on B 743 ISB/LHE-MAN flights with heavy load factors.
But yeah on the whole a much welcome move for Northern Pak pax esp western diplomats who fly to europe and usa regularly and use EK since BA pulled out after 9/11. EKs J & F class #s are expected to decline a bit as a result of the new BA ISB flights.
Any news on BA restarting KHI soon??? Last I heard was a rumor for them extending 3 of their DXB flights a week to KHI??? Whats the scoop on this?
And as far as those people who asked me as to how I know about KUWAIT AIRWAYSs YYZ plans...its simple...their Canada Manager told me and they even had a marketing team come to Toronto this summer to assess the situation!!! I know the KU CAN manager v well and he is too KUs North America's head of marketing!!!

Probably because ISB is the captial of the PAKISTAN. That might be the reason. i wish they start going to Lahore too, it would be cool to see a 777 landing at that airport. My cousin's house is right under the aircraft the land at Lahore. I would love to see a 777 landing or taking off from there.

BA stopped KHI in 1990-91 because of the detoriating law and order situation in KHI and then completely focused on ISB till 2001.
ISB proved to be an excellent money maker for BA with regular eqmp upgrades from tristars to 742s then 744s (LHR-MAN-ISB) and then B 772ER LHR-ISB.
ISB is also a very high yield market because its the political capital of PAK and dips fly F & J to Europe-USA-CAN v often from there + other political-UN mission-agencies etc too have numerous offices in ISB. The city too attracts traffic from nearby big cities such as LHE and PEW. Emirates according to its KHI marketing manager made a 200% profit in 2002 on its ISB route because it always used to get F & J class seats sold out and in 02 there was no BA in ISB.
KHI is too crowded and competitive when it comes to European and USA flights with EK-QR-GF-LX-PIA-SV-RJ-KU etc all flying very frequently with decent sized aircraft. What BA can do is codeshare with LX to KHI for the time being!!!
Competition that BA will face from ISB now is from EK-QR-SU-KU-GF and PIA only with PIA and EK only being the real challenge esp EK when it comes to taking back their premium pax who switched to EK when BA pulled out of ISB.

Just curious, but how does Aeroflot provide "competition" to BA considering they don't even fly to ISB - unless of course they are pushing folks out with parachutes as the 777s fly over en route to Delhi?
