Terms Of The Package For LH And MX At PDX?

I'm curious as to whether anyone can provide some of the specifics to the incentive package for international operations that PDX gave both LH and MX.

Discounts, required frequencies, anullment clauses, etc.

I do not know all of the details but I believe the port of Portland waived landing fees and terminal leases for both carriers for the 1st year. They also guartanteed some money for advertising. With LH flights, the flights were suppose to be daily but they may have allowed for LH to reduce frequency in the winter months. I know PDX has a continengency plan should LH pull out or reduce the daily schedule within 2 years. I think MX has a similar agreement. As an FYI, PDX released the October stats and LH was 80% for the month with strong cargo so they appear to be doing OK. MX, however does not appear to be doing too well-so far.

Did not the city of Portland also put together a financial incentive package (in collaboration with local businesses? Anyone have any details on that also?

I know that LH gave out quite a lenghty press release at the time the flights were introduced - I'll have a look at my stacks of paper, to see if I can find it again...

I know that LH did get money for marketing, as Kwbl mentioned, but I think that that package also included state/city money...

I'll go thought our magazine archive when I'm back at the office tomorrow...

RDU-LGW sorta comes to mind.

You may be able to find the info for LH and MX on the Port of Portland website http://www.portlandairportpdx.com/web_pop/PDXHOME.htm I do know some people that go to Mexico fly on either NW or HP.

Ok, so somebody seems to have thrown the issue with the Wolfgang Mayrhuber interview away, in which he talked about the package that they had received...
