Over the last 15 years, I have probably gone by EWR on the turnpike about 100 times. And every time, without fail, DHL has a 727 right up against the highway. Is it used nightly? Where does it go? Why is it parked in such a random location, away from all the other cargo operators?
I'm sure it must actually fly, but from what I have seen it seems to be forever stuck in that one parking spot.

From what I've heard it leaves late at night, and then comes back early in the morning (maybe 2 different planes or something) which is why you see it. As with most "smaller" a/c for cargo carriers, they do most of their flying at nite, cause during the day, packages etc.. are being picked up and delivered...

It departs Mo-Sa at 10:50 PM for Cincinnati (ER #137), it returns at 6:48 AM (ER #437).
I see them loading it up and departing many times, when I was working in Downtown Newark for the State I would sometimes see it arriving (when it was late) on my commute into work in the Morning.
But if you never pass the airport past 10PM or before 6AM your never going to notice it's been gone, the same for the ABX aircraft. ABX used to have 3 DC-8s parked on the Fed Ex ramp all day, they would leave for Wilmington Ohio at night and return early the next morning.
I just got home from a Night in the City, it was there when I passed about an hour ago.

I've thought many times of posting this question--but u beat me to it.
I've seen the plane parked there for as long back as i can remember, and i feel that it is also a very very ugly plane. I think it gives the airport such a bad look--why cant they have a 747 parked there or something?? The 727 is an ugly plane and it looks even worse in DHL's livery.
I actually saw 2 of them parked back to back just last week--pretty strange.
