I'm just curious...can a DC-10 fly from LAX-NRT nonstop? How about SEA-NRT?

Distance between LAX and NRT is not even 9000 kms so it should be possible for a DC-10 to cover that route. Guess SEA to NRT is quite a bit shorter so that should be possible without any problems.

It should be possible, I do know that Canadian Airlines used to operate DC10-30s from Vancouver to Tokyo.

In fact, NW currently flies SFO-NRT with a DC10...

LAX-NRT is perfectly doable with a DC-10-30. The DC-10-30's range of about 5900 nm works fine for that route.

In the 80s I flew HKG-SEA, so NRT-LAX shouldn't be a problem!

Nonstop HKG-SEA is starting to really push up against the envelope, especially considering DL used their two longest ranged MD-11s for PDX-HKG.

NW did use the DC-10-30 for the SEA-HKG nonstop run in the mid 1990s without any real issues, but I am not sure if that flight carried much cargo in addition to pax.

To my knowledge, DL did not fly PDX-HKG nonstop ever, with any aircraft type.......DL did operate LAX-HKG, first with the L1011-500 with a fuel stop in ANC, and then nonstop with the MD11.

Didnt even know Delta flew to HKG.....wow.

Did Delta's MD-11's have the 2 ox tanks in the forward cargo area for extended range? If so you dont see many of those around, i know swiss doesnt us them and use the MD-11 from zurich-O'hare.

Yes, for a brief moment, Delta did fly to HKG. In the beginning they flew the L-1011-500's and then switched to the MD-11.

Didn't Varig use DC-10-30s to fly between LAX and NRT?

NW does NOT operate SEA-NRT with a Dc10. SFO-NRT is the only TPAC route with DC10 aircraft. SEA is still and will continue to fly a 747-200 until the arrival of 330-200. DL used MD11 aircraft for PDX-Asia destinations.

NW also flies a DC-10 nonstop daily SEA-AMS, which, as the crow flies looking at the globe, is a similar distance. NW also used to fly one SEA-KIX.

DL used MD-11 on routes from LAX-HKG, in fact they send a MD-88 once to HKG...anyone know why?

Varig used DC10s to London, I guess that is similar in distance to LAX.

Delta never flew that route.

L15s flew LAX-ANC-HKG
M11s flew LAX-HKG nonstop

Didnt even know Delta flew to HKG.....

Just to add... it was Kai Tak they flew to. DL has never offered service to Chek Lap Kok.
