Will any new airlines start service at SFO in 2004? GF to GVA-BAH? EK to DXB? EI to DUB? BMI to MAN? FJ to NAN? MH to KUL? VN to HAN? China Southern to CAN or China Northern to PVG? TG and Orient Thai could be possible candidates to, what do you guys think?

No bmi british midland to Manchester. If they add a third US destination, it will be Miami or Boston.

I have heard rumors about all of your suggestions.

I think VN, EI and maybe EK have the greatest chances.

I would agree with you IrishPower, but I also think that GF has a strong chance as well.

MH to KUL is very likely. The only thing that is stopping them from operating this route is obtaining fifth freedom rights in the right city. They wanted to launch SFO back in 1997 and even made a press release about it, but they decided not to launch it when the economic crisis struck Asia. So the chances of MH relaunching SFO is there, but I wouldn't hold my breath for it.

Copaair737:

I respect your right to post threads regarding SFO and the prospects of new routes, but this topic has been discussed to death over the past six months. Since we are pretty much novices, I say we wait for the airlines to announce their intentions and stop spreading rumors or repeating past threads.

Respectfully yours.

Ok heres the latest...GF has abandoned plans for SFO but has given the OK signal for JFK but NONSTOP from BAH using A 343s...no GVA stopovers...this I got from the Canadian GF manager. They will however fly AUH-BAH-JFK-BAH-AUH initally with 3 weekly flights is the plan.

As for MH...I feel that it would do very well from SFO because it is increasing its presence in the Indian market which is an imp market for SFO bound pax and vice versa. I would advise MAS to fly to SFO 4 times a week via HKG or TPE or OSAKA using B 744s.

Behramjee,

Can an A343 even make it non-stop from BAH to JFK? Wouldn't the airline have to either have high payload restrictions or have to purchase an A345 to do so?

Cheers,
Tim

I'm not sure if MH wants to get into a dogfight with CX, SQ and UA on the SFO-HKG route, though.  Smile

I think the most likely airline that will start service to SFO is Alitalia (AZ)--they plan to return to SFO on the MXP-SFO-MXP route once they get enough 777-200ER's to fly this service at least five times per week. Unlike the 767-300(ER) AZ used earlier, the 772ER will not suffer from pax/cargo load restrictions flying westbound year-round.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I think one of the reasons why MH did not start SFO at 97 is because old HKG government did not give them rights, but for an airport desperate for users, things may change though.

Legacyins-with all respects, a lot of airlines have been mention a long time going and yet no one has announced anything. The rumor board gets bigger and bigger with no backing. Copa and I are very interested, specially myself since I work here and am damn bored with the saem ole airlines.
Ray-I'd actually have to say VN will be the next carrier. They have stated to the public they intend to. AZ has been all rumor, and they announced yesterday they are not coming to SFO next summer. Thats when a European airline would most likely start SFO.
I highly doubt MH as well, they have a frieghter out of here already so there would be little cargo to add to revenue on a passenger flight. I doubt we will see EK here. I had heard the same that Behramjee heard that GF was not coming. EI I could see it happening, anyone know what the EI fleet is looking like, do they have the planes?
So for what its worth I would say VN has the best chance, EI after that, then maybe EK. Let not forget about TG, more planes and a "Star" member!

I see EI and VN as the best bets, or TG.

I also work at SFO, out of the International terminal. I know every International flight that comes in and out. I have the ability to see requests from foreign carriers to serve SFO even before they are announced.
Yes, it would be nice to see a few new International carriers serve SFO but nothing is on the horizon. I read a report yesterday that the US and European governments might have an agreement in about twelve months. So the latest EI might serve SFO is November 2004.

Well, China Northern will not fly to SFO. (That's for sure) This airline already merged with China Southern. I think you mean China Eastern (MU) fly PVG-SFO. I would love to see more routes between US and China.

Lengencyins-well since you have the in's that why you feel the subject is over posted. Copa and I don't so that why we start these post, so guys like you give us the dirt. What you said above doesn't change what I said: VN then EI then anyone else. Hope you can give us more info soon.

I don't think China Eastern (MU) will fly to SFO. I think CAAC in China has already assigned Air China (CA) to fly between SFO and PVG.

I think that EI or VN is our best bet for intl service. EK has a good shot, but id take VN first.

I feel this subject is over posted because it has been discussed numerous times over the past six months. Same post with same responses. As of November 27, 2003, no International carriers have announced any plans to expand their service into SFO. The future? Only time will tell when an airline company will decide to serve or expand at SFO.
