How Did KLM Get Its Name?

I was just wondering, how did KLM get its name? If its I guess you could say, formal name, is Royal Dutch Airlines, where does KLM come from?

Yes it is an abbreviation. I was trying to find the full name on the KLM website to copy and paste because, in the words of Flyf15, I'm "not going to even begin to try to spell it"!!!!

Perhaps a dutchman will see this and enlighten us on the pronunciation???

KLM was formed in 1919 by Albert Plesman with the support of the Dutch government and Queen Wilhelmina. Queen Wilhelmina granted the company a royal warrant enabling it use the title "Royal Dutch" - thus came about the name Royal Dutch Airlines and, as stated above, the original Dutch version of the company's name is Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij. Hence KLM.
