Do any US based airlines operate or ever plan to operate to places like the Persian Gulf States, Pakistan or any of the former Soviet Central Asian states? (I'm only talking about regular scheduled service not Hajj flights or Govt. contracts). NW and DL go to India but that's about it for this region currently.

Also if anyone knows where have US carriers flown in the past to places like Beruit, Tehran etc.

I'm curious to see if the US carriers see any potential profit in these markets.

I remember flying on a Pan Am 747 into Karachi way back (but that is ancient history).

Current political climate between the states and the countries you mentioned dictates that you will probably not see US carriers in the persian gulf or the middle east with any regularity any time soon. However, Delta DID fly JFK-TLV-DXB, and Conti is thinking of doing EWR-DXB last I heard.

Actually, it was JFK-CAI-DXB; no 5th freedoms, pulled after 9/11

Didn't Pan Am used to fly to Iran?
