ATH will most likely see a tremendous amount of traffic in the summer months gearing up for the Olympic Games.

KLM will operate two additional daily rotations to ATH for the summer Olympics, including a daily 744 AMS-ATH-AMS, and a daily 737. This in addition to the usual three daily 737 rotations.

What other flights are anticipated from your local airport to ATH for the Games?

Delta will be adding three weekly frequencies on JFK-ATH, using B-767-300 ER equipment.

i think that DL needs more flights. There will be a lot of Americans traveling and Delta has been the official airline of the olympics. Not to mention 2 of the past 4 olympics have been at DL hubs!

I don't know how many Americans will be travelling to ATH for the games...after all, we have been pretty spoiled, having the Olympics in America seemingly every other time. If anything, the extra passengers might just be ferried via the SkyTeam partner hubs; if demand is there, then we might see double-daily JFK-ATH or some ATL-ATH, but only if there is demand for it.

Lufthansa will increase its Athens service;

1x DUS-ATH-DUS 733
3x MUC-ATH-MUC 321/320/319
3x FRA-ATH-FRA 300 (as usual, but there are rumours for a forth daily service)

Delta are not the official carrier of the Olympics: Olympic Airlines/Airways (call them what you want) hold that title this year.

Delta, I believe, are the official sponsor of the US Olympic team...

I think what is a big problem is the number of hotel rooms in ATH (less of a problem than seats on planes).

They are bringing in like 10 cruise ships to use as hotels. A good use of space, but ATH is a crowded town. Will be interesting.
