Rest assured, this really did happen.

Mooney Pilot (in a holding pattern): Request the GPS 35 approach.

Approach: Mooney ----U, expect vectors for the GPS 35 approach.

*A few minutes and some vectors go by*

Approach: Mooney ----U, 4 miles from INAGY, cross INAGY at 3700, cleared for the GPS 17 approach.

*Slightly longer than normal pause*

Mooney Pilot: Approach, there is a new GPS 35 approach, INAGY is the IAWP for the old approach.

Approach: The new approach doesn't take effect until the 12th.

*Very small pause*

Mooney Pilot: Today is the 12th.

*Extremely long silence*

Approach: (Laughter in background) Mooney ----U proceed direct to whatever the new IAWP is, cleared for the GPS 35 approach.

I dunno if it's me, but I fail to see the humor in this. To me, it sounds like a little mistake and some confusion.

Personally I find this story very humorous...Thank you for posting it ralgha  Smile

This kind of confusion happens more often than most of you might think. Here in Daytona's airspace the flight training makes things really tough on the controllers and the numerous student pilots who are in the skies simultaneously.
