Hola / Hello;
Can anybody tell me why.... and since when Iberia is putting their 747-200 on the BOG route????
Is it for the high Christmas demand???
I was yesterday at Bogota Eldorado international Airport with my friend Giovanni Rodriguez, he also was surprised to see this beautiful lady coming in from Spain.
We waited until 1,5 hour later when he left for MAD!

I just checked out Iberia.com and it seems that they will fly with their 747 lady's to BOG until 10th of December!! Can anybody confirm? An does IB do the same to Lima, Quito or Caracas?
I´m already sad that I didn´t travel with Iberia this year to BOG!! I just arrived last week with BA on a B763! When will Iberia retire their 747 fleet?

Thanks in advance and saludos

When I was in Quito a few months ago I would often see the Iberia 747s lumbering in at about 4pm.

It could be seasonal demand and the fact that BA is only operating a 767-300ER to BOG, so I am sure IB could pick up some BA slack. I just checked Sabre, which shows only BOG and EZE with the 747 (EZE getting a 747-300). All the others I checked (CCS, UIO, GYE, MEX, LIM, SCL, GRU, SDQ, SJU) all showed A-340s, and in the case of SDQ/SJU an A-340-600.

Hello LatinAviation

Your right with info on BA. When they dropped the 777 service to BOG a lot of people travelled with IB to BOG and CCS also because of cheap fares that Ib has the last year to Latin America
So BOG is very lucky with the 747 i think?
And whats SABRE?

Sabre is a reservation system (http://www.sabre-holdings.com). It was jointly developed by American Airlines and IBM. Sabre itself is an acronym for Semi Automated Business Research Environment.

Hey Wimpycol,

Also don't forget Lufthansa also is not operating. Iberia has great connections to BOG from different German cities like DUS, FRA, etc. So they may be certainly profiting from increased demand that other carriers are not meeting.

I know is off-topic but being there in BOG. Do you know if Avianca will eventuallly revert to their great colour scheme?

Fijn vakantie!

According to a story I read in AvNews Latin America & Caribbean Juan Emilio Posada said the current "butterfly" scheme will stay, just the Summa Alliance will be desolved.

Lima,

As LatinAviation said, the butterfly scheme will stay for good. In May of 2002 they started painting some aircraft, and at that time, it was going to be a temporary thing. Throughout the rest of 2002 until November, they operated a mixed up fleet, only having painted at that moment all the A320s and all the 767s, some MDs, some 757s and a couple of Fokker 50s.

In late 2002 they started renovating the Avianca terminal in BOG, and they started putting the butterfly everywhere, and areas that were red, were now white or gray. And after that, they inmediately began to paint the part of the fleet that didn't get the painting before. So by February 2003, there wasn't any aircraft in Avianca's fleet nor in Aces' that had the old livery.

By, now, absolutely all the aircraft still remain the same, except for a couple of 757 leased recently that are still in hybrid colors, and will be painted soon.
Although I don't know for sure if there aren't any logojets around....

Regards,

Federico
