Up here in BUF, over the past 2 years, both DL and AA have switched from mainline M80,738,F100, and 722 service. Now I know DL has retired the 722, and AA is retiring the F100, but both are flying ERJ's and CRJ's only to BUF. It just doesnt make sense, for AA to do that since ORD is the #2 daily destination behind NYC area for Buffalo pax. I also noticed that this happens to be a trend in upstate, as well as some of the other mid-sized cities in the country? Anybody know why, is this an ongoing trend with all the airlines and will it eventually lead to across the board RJ traffic for cities of this market size (about 1.75 million)

This has been the trend for a number of years. In very general terms, the traveling public [buyers] want more options [i.e. less wait times] and the only way to do that is to increase the number of flights [departures] in a given market. If the number of travelers remains about the same, the best [i.e. most economic] way to provide the increased number of departures using the same number of seats is to fly more flights with smaller jets carrying fewer seats more often [=same #seats in the marketplace].

Only "the market" will decide. The trend will continue until the buyers show a different preference. Suppliers [the airlines] will adapt or die to changes in the marketplace.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.

It seems to be the trend....DL is pulling out of Montana with the exception of Bozeman, going all Skypest RJs...More flights a few less seats, lower cost, more convenience for pax, why not? Lower your station operating costs by going to Skywest employees, pass the buck, then in summer months run a few mainline jets, and go back to RJs for winter when loads are more unreliable. Just my opinion, wrong or right...
