GE, PW and RR are investing lots of money to make the GP7200 and the Trent 900 the most efficient, "green" engines in the marketplace for many yrs to come. Existing engines could not meet the requirements. Lots of new materials , electronics and 3d aerodynamics where used to meet the specifications set by Airbus for its A380 versions.
Will the GP7200 and Trent 900 be used on other aircraft then the A380 ?
Candidates could be the 764, a330, B52, C5, 747adv, 7E7, ...
I think A330 should be a serious candidate, A330-500
or 7E7 if "bleedless" would become too expensive / risky or whatever ..

It was written in the November Popular Science magazine that the fan diameter of these engines makes them too large to fit under the wing of the 747. I guess there is the possibility of using them on the 777 - they seem to be in the similar thrust range as the engines used on the A market aircraft.

While the sheer size of the front fan on the A380 engines (116" or around 295 cm) will probably mean the original engine designs will be unique to the A380, it's very likely that a smaller fan version of the Trent 900 or GP7200 could end up being the engine choices for the upcoming Boeing 7E7 airliner.
