Iberia, Emirate Enter Nation's Airspace
Iberia, the Spanish national flag carrier is set to make a grand return to the Nigerian route after it made a ceased sudden disppearance from the nation's airspace in the 80s. THISDAY learnt that the absence of Iberia from the Nigerian route was part of its repositioning strategy.
Also, the 2003 Middle East Leading Airline Award, Emirates is billed to commence operations in Nigeria in January and has already released its schedule for tyhe operations.
It was gathered from the stand of the Spanish carrier during the just concluded World Travel Market(WTM) in London that Iberia is to resume operations in the early part of next year, preferably Januray.
Carlos Simas, Lesiure Sales Account Manager of Iberia told THISDAY in London that the airline was enthusiatic about returning to the Nigerian route.
He noted that the airline considered the Nigerian route a very strategic one that Iberia should service, adding that with the return of the carrier, direct flights between lagos and Milan would be re-established.
Contacted, the Head, Public Affairs, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority(NCAA), Mrs Ify Megwa confirmed the coming of Emirates but promised to find out whether Iberia is billed to return to Nigeria.
