Why A3XX Is Now A380?

KEESJE started a topic about a possible A350. This makes me wondering why the A3XX is called A380 and not A350 since it is the next new aircraft after the A340.
There must be a reason for this is it not? Anyone knows...?


I love both Airbus and Boeing as much as I love aviation!

yes, 8 is a lucky number in asia. and since thats the key market its the a380-800 and not the a350-300/400

A3XX was simply a working title until the A380 program got off the ground. I believe it wasn't called the A350 so that they had logical room to expand their line between the 340 and 380 in the future. And, as said above, 8 is considered lucky in Asia, so they thought that would help with sales.
