Southwest Ever Going To Expand Service Out Of PBI

As a Southwest loyalist, I am constantly trying to find ways to get to San Diego(SAN) from here. Service from Fort Lauderdale(FLL) has not been good of late, and Orlando(MCO) is a 3 hour drive, though I would rather do that than fly another airline.

Now I know that service from West Palm(PBI) to (SAN) is probably not in the works in the near future, but was wondering if anyone knew what plans Southwest(WN) has for PBI. I know that after 9/11 their expansion plans got cut way back, face it Philadelphia(PHL) is their first new airport in 2 years.

What is interesting about PBI to me is that we have a lot of low cost presence here. Delta is dominant, and US Air has a good presence, but also you will find Jet Blue, Spirit, Airtran, and Song. In fact Song's maiden flight was to PBI. That's 5 low costs, all serving a fairly small, but highly potential airport.

Moody,

Chances are that PBI will never see an expansion. Since we started service there, we have reduced capacity by 25% (12 flights to 9 flights). PBI was primarily political to begin with because we were having trouble getting FLL to give us the space we wanted, as I understand.

Hope this helps!

Don

What cities does WN serve from PBI?

I know there is:
ISP
TPA
BNA

I know MCO was discontinued and there were plans at one point to fly to STL. I hope those cities I listed are still accurate. I haven't been to PBI in almost a year so I'm sorta out of the loop on PBI happenings.

Swacle.... Thanks for the info, hope they don't drop the city entirely, at least I can still use a Rapid Rewards ticket and build a route.

Even if it means that when my wife and I fly to SAN this year we go

PBI-BNA-SAN

and on the way home

SAN-ELP-AUS-TPA-PBI but we don't change planes in TPA

COEWRNJ:

Southwest serves non stop from PBI to:

BWI, ISP, BNA, TPA

with connects to 19 other cities.

southwest is not dropping west palm. if you check the passenger rankings southwest has gradually moved into being the third largest carrier at PBI (in terms of enplaned passengers). and southwest wasn't political. there was a market for southwest service here. they can easily serve FLL and PBI and still make money, the same way that jetblue, airtran, and spirit do. and they may have gone from 12 to 9 flights but that was dropping two MCO flights, adding two to ISP, having saturday service in season to STL, and various other shuffling around. you'll see expansion, but it will be slow.

Well, I know that when I have flown out of PBI the planes seemed to have a reasonable load.

Tell me, how do you find out info like passenger loads and such.

P.S. Hi Jeffie813, got your message in the treated nice forum (not the right name) hope you got my response

Also, they make more seat with the direct or connecting flight and here it is with mroe than of 33,706 seats on their way to connected flight. Those are alot of the people goes with the nonstop from FLL to BNA, BWI, JAX, ISP, MCO, MDW, MSY, TPA and are still doing very well with these passengers and hopefully in the future will have expansion nonstop from FLL to LAX, LAS, & PHX into the west coast. Thanks!  Smile

moodyblues...

you know what...i just now read your response in the other forum. i go to the top of the garage also, but i hate paying. so i either go to the public viewing area, or a street of of military trail that lines up almost perfectly with 9L. that street offers the best view. the viewing area is off of perimeter road. if you're coming from southern, turn at the entrance to 391st bomb group, make a right, and go about 1/2 a mile. you'll see the area on the right. there is also an entrance to perimeter off of australian ave and belvedere rd.
