I first must state that I am in fact a supporter of Continental, but if this is true, I hope they get fined heavily. It should be well known in the industry that skimping on maintenance will not be tolerated in the slightest.

Actually, while Continental barely uses these guys at all now, they do the maintenance for almost every US major. This article is a lot of hot air. I do think it is important for these things to come out, and believe that standards certainly should be met, but this is pure digging. Continentals maintenance is actually pretty damn good.

I love your post. I'm a Flight Attendant for Continental Micronesia, and I known in the 3 years I've been with the airline, we've had excellent safety records. I stand behind Continental and our maintenece personnel 100%. To think that someone thinks so low of CO makes me wanna throw up anyways have a good day

Just skimmed through the article but there appears to be a couple things that make me suspect that the FAA is trying to get one big fine in before the end of the year to show, "who's boss".
The newspaper article makes a big deal about the firm not being a repairstation. All that means is that the mechanics are working under their own certificates as opposed to a repair station certificate.
This puts more liablity on the mechanic and isn't desirable for them.
OBAMA-WORST PRESIDENT EVER....Even SKOORB would be better.

These guys do very little real maintenance for anybody. When CO had a problem during the day one of these guys would go look at the problem. The article mentioned an improperly deferred autopilot. Houston mtx controllers would call these guys to go and place the item on a deferred maintenance list. Most likely they were required to pull the c/b and tag the item. Then they did a log book entry. This is what the Feds found to be wrong. Unless Fred the Fed is looking over your shoulder while you work, he can only look at the paperwork days, weeks or months later to find fault.
At my first airline job the deferred list was the first place they looked for mistakes. We had guys that routinely screwed up the deferred entries. They did the physical work right, but didn't document it correctly so the job was done wrong. Was it a problem? Yes, was it as bad as leaving a cotter pin off a wheel assembly, doubtful. CO is at fault for not properly training Miami Tech and overseeing their work. An internal auditor should have caught these mistakes and notified the mechanics of their mistakes.
